Cylinder Head and Cover Overview
1 Bracket
• For the fuel hose.
2 Bolt
• 10 Nm
3 Cap
• Replace the seal if damaged.
4 Cylinder Head Cover
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head Cover ] Service and Repair.
5 Bolt
• 10 Nm
• With a spacer sleeve and seal.
• Replace the seal if it is damaged.
6 Cylinder Head Cover Gasket
• Replace if damaged or leaking.
• Pay attention to the installed position.
7 Lifting Eye
• With a retaining plate for the knock sensor connector.
8 Bolt
• 23 Nm
9 Intake Manifold Support
10 Bolt
• 23 Nm
11 Bolt
• 10 Nm
12 Bolt
• 10 Nm
13 Water Connection
• To the heater core.
14 Seal Ring
• Always replace.
• Pay attention to the installed position.
15 Chain Tensioner
• 50 Nm
• For the camshaft timing chain.
• Only rotate the engine with the chain tensioner installed.
16 Cover
• Can be removed and installed with the engine installed.
• Coat the sealing surfaces with silicone adhesive sealant (D 176 501 A1).
17 Seal
• For the camshaft adjustment valve 1 and the exhaust camshaft adjustment valve 1.
• Replace if damaged or leaking.
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cover Seal ] Cover Seal.
18 Bolt
• 8 Nm
19 Bolt
• 8 Nm
20 Coolant Pipe
• With retaining clips for the vacuum line.
21 Bolt
• 23 Nm
22 Guide Rail
• For the camshaft timing chain.

• 23 Nm
• Install using liquid locking fluid (D 000 600 A2).
24 Water Connection
• Bolted onto the front of the cylinder head
25 O-ring
• Always replace.
26 Seal
• Always replace.
27 Cylinder Head Gasket
• Made of metal.
• Always replace.
• Replacing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head ] Cylinder Head.
• After replacing, replace the entire amount of coolant.
28 Cylinder Head
• Checking for distortion. Refer to => [ Checking the Cylinder Head for Distortion ].
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head ] Cylinder Head.
• After replacing, replace the entire amount of coolant.
29 Bolt
• Always replace.
• Before installing, coat the bolts with liquid locking fluid (D 197 300 A2). Refer to => [ Apply to each cylinder head bolt at the head contact surface area and insert the bolts. ] Cylinder Head.
• Follow the instructions and sequence when loosening. Refer to => [ Loosen the cylinder head bolts working from the outside to the inside in the sequence given and then remove them. ] Cylinder Head.
• Follow the instructions and sequence when tightening. Refer to => [ Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the specified sequence , starting from the inside and working toward the outside, as follows: ] Cylinder Head.
Checking the Cylinder Head for Distortion
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Straight Edge 500 mm (VAS 6075)
• Feeler Gauge
Max. permissible distortion: 0.05 mm
