Fuel Tank and Attachments Overview

Fuel hoses at the engine may only be secured with spring type clamps appropriate for the model type.

Hose clip pliers (VAS 6362) or (V.A.G 1921) are recommended for installing spring clamps.






1 Cap

Replace if damaged.

2 Bolt

3 Ground Connection

Make sure it is secure.

4 Vent Line

To the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister.

Make sure it is secure.

5 Lock Ring

110 Nm

Make sure it is secure.

Use the wrench (3087) for removal and installation.

6 Fuel Delivery Unit

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Delivery Unit ] Fuel Delivery Unit.

Checking the fuel pump. Refer to => [ Fuel Pump, Checking ] Fuel Pump, Checking.

Pay attention to the installed position on the fuel tank. Refer to => [ Installed Position of the Fuel Delivery Unit Flange and Fuel Level Sensor 2 ].

With the fuel level sensor.

Fuel level sensor removing and installing. Refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor G ] Fuel Level Sensor G.

Clean the screen if it is dirty.

7 Supply Line

Black

Attached to the side of the fuel tank.

Make sure it is secure.

8 Flange, Left Side

With the fuel level sensor 2,

With the suction jet pump.

With a pressure relief valve.

With the fuel filter.

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Level Sensor 2 G169 ] Fuel Level Sensor 2 G169.

9 Bolt

3.5 Nm

10 Fuel Pump Control Module Bracket

11 Fuel Pump Control Module (J538)

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Pump Control Module J583 ] Fuel Pump Control Module J583.

12 Seal

Replace if damaged.

Install the seal into the fuel tank opening dry.

Lubricate with fuel only when installing the flange.

13 Fuel Tank

Support the fuel tank using the engine-/gearbox jack (V.A.G 1383 A).

Removing and installing, refer to => [ Fuel Tank ] Fuel Tank.

14 Bolt

25 Nm

Always replace.

Only use bolts with loose washers to secure the fuel tank straps. The straps could twist when the bolts are tightened if other bolts are used. For the correct bolts, refer to the Parts Catalog.

15 Securing Strap

Pay attention to the installed position.

16 Bolt

25 Nm

Always replace.

17 Retainer

18 Heat Shield

19 Vent Line

Attached to the side of the fuel tank.

Make sure it is secure.

20 Vent Line

Make sure it is secure.

21 Bolt

8 Nm + an additional 90° (1/4) turn.

Always replace.

22 Fuel Filler Door Unit

With a rubber cup.

Installed Position of the Fuel Delivery Unit Flange and Fuel Level Sensor 2





Fuel delivery unit - 3 -:

The tab - 1 - points in the direction of travel.

Fuel level sensor 2 (- 2 -):

The tab - 1 - points in the direction of travel.

Do not pay attention to the arrows on the lock rings.
