Pinion Seal
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Puller (T10055)
• Assembly Tool (T10430)
• Two 4 mm screws
• Sealing Grease for Seal (G 052 128 A1)
Removing
- Remove the front final drive. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive ] Front Final Drive.
- Remove the seal - 1 - and the circlip - 2 -.
- Punch two holes into the cover using a drift and screw in two 4 mm screws - arrows -.
- Remove the dust cap using the puller (T10055).
- Punch two holes into the seal using a drift.
- Screw in the two 4 mm screws into the seal.
• Be careful not to install the screws too deep otherwise the bearing underneath will get damaged.
- Remove seal using the puller (T10055).
Installing
- Fill the space between the sealing and dust lips halfway with sealing grease for seal (G 052 128 A1) when installing a new seal.
- Cover the splines on the stub shaft with adhesive tape.
- Install the new seal into the seal seat on the final drive.
- Install the seal all the way in using the thrust piece (T10430). Be careful not to tilt it.
- Install the new dust cap using the thrust piece (T10430/1).
- Install the new seal - 1 - and the new circlip - 2 -.
- Check the front final drive gear oil level. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking ] Front Final Drive Gear Oil Level, Checking.
- Install the front final drive. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive ] Front Final Drive.
