Cylinder Head Component Overview





1 Cylinder head gasket

• Replace, refer to: Left cylinder head => [ Left Cylinder Head, Removing ] Left Cylinder Head, Removing, right cylinder head => [ Right Cylinder Head, Removing ] Right Cylinder Head, Removing

• Installed location: Part number facing cylinder head

• Replace coolant after replacing

2 Cylinder head

• Removing, refer to: Left => [ Left Cylinder Head, Removing ] Left Cylinder Head, Removing, right => [ Right Cylinder Head, Removing ] Right Cylinder Head, Removing

• Check for distortion => [ Checking cylinder head for distortion ]

• Reworking dimension => [ Reworking dimension, cylinder head ]

• Drive filler cap into cylinder head => [ Drive sealing cap into cylinder head ]

• Installing, refer to => [ Cylinder Head, Installing ] Cylinder Head

• Replace coolant after replacing

3 Lifting eye

4 23 Nm

5 Cylinder head bolt

• Replace

• Observe sequence for loosening: Left cylinder head => [ Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence. ] Left Cylinder Head, Removing, right cylinder head => [ Loosen cylinder head bolts in the sequence. ] Right Cylinder Head, Removing

• Note tightening sequence => [ Tighten cylinder head bolts in 3 stages
in the tightening sequence shown as follows: ] Cylinder Head

6 Centering pins

• for intake manifold

7 Special bolt - 10 Nm

• Observe sequence when tightening: Left cylinder head cover => [ Tighten cylinder head cover in sequence. ] Left Cylinder Head Cover, right cylinder head cover => [ Tighten cylinder head cover in sequence. ] Right Cylinder Head Cover

8 Gasket

• Replace if damaged or leaking

9 Cap

10 O-ring

• Replace

11 Crankcase ventilation hose

12 Ignition coil

13 Cylinder head cover

• Removing and installing, refer to: Left => [ Left Cylinder Head Cover ] Left Cylinder Head Cover, right => [ Right Cylinder Head Cover ] Right Cylinder Head Cover

14 Cylinder head cover gasket

• Replace if damaged or leaking

15 10 Nm

16 Rear coolant pipe

17 Combination valve for Secondary Air Injection (AIR)

18 10 Nm

19 Gasket

• Replace

20 O-ring

• Replace

Checking cylinder head for distortion





- Check cylinder head at multiple points for distortion, using straight edge and feeler gauges.

• Permissible distortion: max. 0.1 mm.

Reworking dimension, cylinder head





Resurfacing cylinder head (face grinding) is only permissible to minimum dimension - a -.

• Minimum dimension - a - = 139.25 mm.

Drive sealing cap into cylinder head





Left and right cylinder heads are available as a replacement part and must be installed with a sealing cap on corresponding side.

- Coat sealing cap edge with sealing paste; sealing paste.

- Drive sealing cap in flush with cylinder head using Needle Bearing Drift (VW295).
