Overview Of Basic Setting Display Groups At Front A/C Control Head Climatronic Control Module J255

NOTE:
- For a newly installed front Climatronic Control Module J255, "Econ" mode is switched on for as long until basic setting in display groups "001" and "003" has been performed a minimum of one time successfully (indicator lamp in ECON button lights up). Only when basic setting has been performed successfully in display groups "001" and "003" can "Econ mode" be switched off.
- Once it has been activated, basic setting in display group "001" is fully implemented (even if the ignition is switched off and on again in the meantime, the link with the tester is interrupted or On Board Diagnostic (OBD) is terminated).
- As long as basic setting was not performed successfully, the malfunction "Basic setting not performed" with malfunction type "basic setting / adaptation not performed or performed incorrectly" appears in DTC memory. After basic setting has been performed successfully, the malfunction is erased automatically.
- After activation, front A/C control head Climatronic Control Module J255 requires a certain period of time for the "Basic Setting" function (e.g. 1-2 minutes for display group "001")

Basic setting in display groups "001" and "002"

Display group Basic Setting performed
001 Upon activating the "basic setting" function, various components which must be measured via a basic setting are actuated, depending on the version of the front Climatronic Control Module J255.
- So that this can be detected immediately, the front Climatronic Control Module J255 is in the "Basic setting" function.
- On the "Comfort" version, indicators in both displays are switched off (only the background lighting remains illuminated).
- On the "Basic" version, the indicator lamp in the ECON button starts to blink.
- Various A/C system control motors are actuated in such a way that they reach both end positions, resistance values of the potentiometers installed in the various control motors are then stored for both end positions Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- Fresh Air Blower V2 is actuated with a specified voltage and the blower characteristic map is calculated from the feedback voltage and the measured values determined are stored
- Wait until basic setting is completed.
- Once basic setting has been performed successfully, the front Climatronic Control Module J255 sends the message "basic setting performed" (this message is not always displayed on the tester).
- On the "Comfort" version, indicators in both displays are switched on again.
- On the "Basic" version, the indicator lamp in the ECON button no longer blinks.
002 First operation of A/C system / compressor
- At this time, a basic setting in display group "002" is not possible.
- The function intended for basic setting in display group "002" is performed on this vehicle by initiating basic setting in display group "003" Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.

Basic Setting display group "003"

NOTE:
- Basic setting in display group "003" can only be performed when basic setting in display group "001" has been performed successfully.
- As long as basic setting in display group "003" on a new front Climatronic Control Module J255 has not been performed once successfully, "Econ mode" cannot be switched off and the malfunction "running in procedure" with malfunction type "basic setting not performed or incorrectly performed" is displayed in DTC memory. After basic setting has been performed successfully, the malfunction is erased automatically.
- After activating Basic Setting, wait until it ends automatically by front A/C control head Climatronic Control Module J255 (indication in display or buttons no longer blink). If Basic Setting has aborted prematurely, A/C control head Climatronic Control Module J255 stores a DTC in DTC memory and various functions of A/C system cannot be selected.
- The duration and temperatures in display group "003" prescribed during basic setting can be adjusted via the "adaptation" function Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- If the required measured values should not be obtained due to extreme ambient conditions (e.g. a very high outside temperature), perform this basic setting once more at an engine speed of approx. 2000 RPM.

Display group Basic Setting performed

003 Cooling performance test of A/C system / compressor
- This display group is intended for first operation of A/C system at the factory. Since the front Climatronic Control Module J255 is the same for the factory and service, this function on a new front Climatronic Control Module J255 must also be performed in customer service when first operating.
- So that this Basic Setting can be performed, engine must run at idle RPM and instrument panel air vents must be opened.
- After activation, front A/C control head Climatronic Control Module J255 requires approx. 5 minutes for this Basic Setting function.
- If basic setting has been activated, wait until the basic setting has ended (indicator on display of front Climatronic Control Module J255 e.g. no longer blinks) Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- If the function is aborted e.g. by switching off ignition or the measured values are not OK, the malfunction "Test not OK upper limit exceeded", "system function test upper limit exceeded" or "system test upper limit exceeded" is stored in front A/C control head Climatronic Control Module J255, depending on version. At this time this malfunction can only be erased when this function has been performed again to the end and the measured values of the temperature sensors are then OK Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System VAS5051 in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
- If the required measured values should not be obtained due to extreme ambient conditions (e.g. a very high outside temperature), perform this basic setting once more at an engine speed of approx. 2000 RPM.
004 At this time, a basic setting in display group "004" is not possible.

Basic setting in display groups "005" and "006"

NOTE:
- After activating basic setting "005", wait approx. 1 minute, then switch ignition off (time until control motors have reached their service positions).
- Basic setting "006" is also encompassed within basic setting "001" and therefore is only to be performed if e.g. Climatronic Control Module J255 or Fresh Air Blower V2 were replaced and basic setting "001" should not be performed for certain reasons.
