Left Flange Shaft

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

• Sealing grease (G 052 128 A1)

Removing

• The transmission is secured on the Engine and Transmission Holder (VAS 6095). Refer to => [ Transmission, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder ] Transmission, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder.

- Tilt the transmission back on the engine and transmission holder so the gear oil does not drain out.

- Remove bolts - arrows - for the flange shaft bearing plate.





- Remove left flange shaft - 2 - from the transmission - arrow A -.





• Ignore - 1 - and - arrows 3 and B -.

- Remove dual mass flywheel. Refer to => [ Dual Mass Flywheel ] Dual Mass Flywheel.

Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

• Tightening specification. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive Sealing Rings Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.

- Always clean the left flange shaft, the transmission housing in the area where the differential is accessed - arrow A - and the shaft seal - arrow B -.





• Replace the shaft seal between the differential and transmission housing - arrow B - if it is damaged. Refer to => [ Left Flange Shaft Seal ] Left Flange Shaft Seal.

- Fill area between sealing lip and dust lip halfway with Sealing Grease (G 052 128 A1).

- Install dual mass flywheel. Refer to => [ Dual Mass Flywheel ] Dual Mass Flywheel.

- Rotate the dual mass flywheel - 1 - until the opening to the differential - arrow 3 - is seen.





- Install the left flange shaft - 2 - into the transmission - arrow B -; while doing this, install the flange shaft centered into the sealing ring on the front differential - arrow 3 -.

• If the flange shaft is not centered, the flange shaft splines - 2 - will damage the shaft seal between the final drive and the transmission housing.

• The shaft seal must be replaced if it is damaged.

• Disregard - arrow A -.

- After installing the transmission. Refer to => [ Front Final Drive and Transfer Case, Checking Transmission Oil Level and Filling ] Front Final Drive and Transfer Case, Checking Transmission Oil Level and Filling.
