Removing

Guidelines for clean working conditions when working on automatic transmission, refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

- Move the selector lever into "P".

- Remove the rear noise insulation.

- Drain the ATF, refer to => [ ATF, Draining or Filling after Repair ] ATF, Draining or Filling After Repair.

- Remove the tunnel crossmember. Refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.

- Remove the ball socket - 1 - on the selector lever cable from the selector shaft lever using the (80 - 200).






- Remove the bolts - 2 - from the cable mounting bracket.

There is a risk of destroying the transmission control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

Always "discharge" the static electricity. Do this by touching a grounded object, for example vehicle ground, the vehicle or the hoist.

Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

- Disconnect the connector on transmission by rotating screw connections counter-clockwise - arrow -.

- Place the (V.A.G 1782) under the transmission.






- Remove the bolts - arrows - and remove the end cover.

Installing






Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

For the correct tightening specifications, refer to => [ Cover, Transmission Control Module (J217), Hydraulic Control Module, Overview ] Cover, Transmission Control Module (J217), Hydraulic Control Module, Overview.

Replace the seal, sunroof seal, and axial element.

Replace the end cover bolts.

Do not touch the pins in the connector - A - with fingers.

- Slide the new seal - B - with the double lip outward onto the connector - A - for the Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J217).

- If equipped, place the displacement device - A - on the TCM.






- Clean the sealing surfaces on the transmission housing and on the end cover.

- The alignment sleeves in the transmission housing or in the end cover must be tightened again in the same place.

- Lay the new end cover seal on the transmission housing.

Be sure alignment sleeves are properly seated.

- Make sure that the seals do not get stuck when placing the end cover.






- Check the installed position of the seal - A -:

The seal must be flush (the seal lips must not be bent).

- First tighten the new bolts - arrows - diagonally by hand and then to the tightening specification.

- Shift the transmission selector lever all the way toward the rear - arrow - in "P".






Toward the rear, opposite the drive direction.

- Install the selector lever cable bracket, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable Overview ] Selector Lever Cable Overview.

- Install the transmission support and the tunnel crossmember, refer to => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.

- Fill the ATF, refer to => [ ATF, Draining or Filling after Repair ] ATF, Draining or Filling After Repair.
