Air Bag Deactivation Switch: Service and Repair






Front Passenger Airbag Deactivation Key Switch (E224)

Removing



Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

- Turn on the ignition.

- Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

- Remove the glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.






Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, disconnecting the connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

- Disconnect the electrical harness connector - 2 -.

- To do this, press the catch - 1 - in the direction of the- arrow - until the connector disengages.






- Disconnect the electrical connector - 2 -.

- Release the retaining springs - 1 - and - 3 - and press the front passenger airbag key switch - 4 - out of the key switch housing.






Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

Make sure the wires do not get caught.

- Ensure the front passenger airbag -off- key switch (E224) engages audibly in the housing.

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
