Removing
• Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Restraint System Components, Safety Precautions and Testing Procedures ] Description and Operation.
• Before handling pyrotechnic components (for example, disconnecting the electrical connector), the person handling it must "discharge static electricity". This can be done by touching the door striker, for example.
- Remove the rear seat backrest. Refer to => [ Lower Seat Frame/Rear Seat Backrest ] Lower Seat Frame/Rear Seat Backrest.
- Remove the seat adjustment control module bracket. Refer to => [ Rear Seat Adjustment Control Module ] Rear Seat Adjustment Control Module.
- Remove the multicontour seat compressor. Refer to => [ Compressor Rear Multi-contour Seat Compressor V441/V442 ] Compressor Rear Multi-contour Seat Compressor V441/V442.
- For reinstallation, mark pneumatic lines at the separating point with a waterproof permanent marker.
• The external check valve - 3 - is discontinued as of June 2010. Since then it is located inside the control modules for the multicontour seat. To find out if the control module has the check valve or not, refer to the => Parts Catalog.
• Remove the separate check valve if installing a multicontour seat control module that contains an integrated check valve. Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog
• Original replacement parts are delivered with short sections of line to which pneumatic lines with line connectors are connected.
• Before disconnecting the pneumatic lines, transfer the length of the sections of line from the original spare part to the part to be removed and disconnect at exactly this point.
- Disconnect the connector - 2 -.
- Version with a separate check valve: disconnect the pneumatic line from the check valve - 3 -. Refer to => [ Check Valve ] Check Valve.
- Version with an integrated check valve: disconnect the pneumatic line, refer to => [ Disconnecting and Connecting Pneumatic Lines ] Disconnecting and Connecting Pneumatic Lines.
- Push multi-contour seat control module - 4 - up slightly - arrow - and remove it.
- Disconnect pneumatic lines - 1 - at the multi-contour rear seat control module. Refer to => [ Pneumatic Lines Disconnecting and Connecting ] Pneumatic Lines Disconnecting and Connecting.
Installing

• Observe all measures when installing the rear seat. Refer to => [ Lower Seat Frame/Rear Seat Backrest ] Lower Seat Frame/Rear Seat Backrest.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
