Removing Components From Front A/C Unit
• Depending on the production date, there can be different versions of the levers and connecting elements on the A/C unit. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.
Interchange of the wire connections to the temperature sensors or the connectors at the control motors results in problems regarding the regulation of the A/C system.
• Interchanged connectors at the control motors or the temperature sensors are not identified as malfunctions by the Climatronic control module (J255).
• Prior to disconnecting connectors or removing electrical components, clearly label them in order to rule out confusion.

Remove Attachments From The A/C Unit
1 Air Intake Housing
• The air intake housing is removed for removal of the front A/C unit, refer to=> [ Front Heating and A/C Unit ] Front Heating and A/C Unit.

2 Screw
3 Expansion Valve
• Removed during removal of the front A/C unit, refer to => [ Front Heating and A/C Unit ] Front Heating and A/C Unit.
• Remove and install the refrigerant line from the expansion valve, refer to => [ Front Expansion Valve Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting ] Front Expansion Valve Refrigerant Lines, Disconnecting.

4 Mounting Plate

5 O-ring
• Replacing, refer to => [ Refrigerant Circuit O-rings ] Refrigerant Circuit O-rings.

6 O-ring

7 A/C Unit With Evaporator
• May only be removed when refrigerant circuit has been removed; bring vehicle to a workshop that has the necessary tools and in which the work can be performed accordingly by qualified personnel.

8 Screw
• If the catch between the A/C unit with the evaporator and the air intake housing is no longer secure during installation, a second bolt must be installed, refer to => [ Air Intake Housing Of Front A/C Unit ] Air Intake Housing Of Front A/C Unit.
9 Insulation Mat
• The insulation mat is removed for removal of the front A/C unit, refer to => [ Front Heating and A/C Unit ] Front Heating and A/C Unit.

10 Air Duct For Glove Compartment Cooling

12 A/C System Wiring Harness
Interchange of the wire connections to the temperature sensors or the connectors at the control motors results in problems regarding the regulation of the A/C system.

• Different versions (for example for vehicles with and without an auxiliary air heater control module (J604). Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.
• Mark the allocation before disconnecting the connectors (danger of interchange, connectors of same shape for different motors and temperature sensor).
• Secure the wiring harness at the mounting points on the housing. With cable ties or at the mounts so that it cannot come into contact with any moving parts.
• With connection to the Climatronic control module (J255).
13 Left Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor (G261)
• Removed during removal of the front A/C unit, refer to => [ Front Heating and A/C Unit ] Front Heating and A/C Unit.

• Check the left vent temperature sensor (G150) using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
14 Right Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor (G262)
• Removed during removal of the front A/C unit, refer to => [ Front Heating and A/C Unit ] Front Heating and A/C Unit.
• Refer to => [ Right Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor (G262) ] Right Footwell Vent Temperature Sensor (G262).
• Check the right footwell vent temperature sensor (G262) using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester in the "Guided Fault Finding" function.
Remove the Temperature Sensor, Control Motors, Actuating Arm, Etc. From the A/C Unit.
• Apply a small amount of grease (G 000 150) to the cam plate guides, the shaft bearings, the toothed segment as well as to the pins on the door levers. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog).

Remove Components From The A/C Unit
1 A/C Unit With Evaporator

2 Coolant Pipe To Heater Core
• Coolant return.
• Disconnecting and connecting from heater core, refer to => [ Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed ] Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed.
• The coolant pipe can be replaced only with the A/C unit removed.
3 Coolant Pipe To Heater Core
• Coolant supply.
• Disconnect and connect from heater core, refer to => [ Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed ] Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed.
• The coolant pipe can be replaced only with the A/C unit removed.
4 Plastic Clamp
• Currently not installed (implementation not yet finalized, the screw clamp is currently always installed) - item 5 => [ (Item 5) Remove The Screw Clamp (Metal Clamp) ] , => [ Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed ] Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed and Electronic Parts Catalog.
5 Remove The Screw Clamp (Metal Clamp)
• Bolt tightening specification of 2 Nm
• Currently installed. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog.
6 O-ring Seal
• Replacing.
• Lubricate lightly with coolant before installing, refer to => [ Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed ] Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed.
7 Restrictor
• Plastic washer for reducing coolant flow installed in the coolant pipe to the heater core => [ (Item 3) Coolant Pipe To Heater Core ].
8 Cover For The Refrigerant Pipes Leading To The Evaporator
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Front Evaporator With A/C Unit Installed ] Front Evaporator With A/C Unit Installed.
• Different versions due to different types of connection of the refrigerant pipes on the standard production evaporator and the replacement evaporator => [ Front Evaporator With A/C Unit Installed ] Front Evaporator With A/C Unit Installed.

12 Bracket

13 Rubber Bushing
• Installed on the pin of the auxiliary heating element. Refer to => [ Auxiliary Heater Heating Element (Z35) with Control Module (J604) ] Service and Repair.
14 Auxiliary Air Heater Control Module (J604) With Auxiliary Heater Heating Element (Z35)
• The auxiliary air heater control module with the auxiliary heating element is installed only for vehicles with diesel engines.
• Different versions of the A/C unit with and without an opening for the (J604) with (Z35) depending on the vehicle version. Refer to Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).
• Check the function of the auxiliary air heater control module and the auxiliary heating element.
• Remove and install the auxiliary air heater control module with auxiliary heating element. Refer to => [ Auxiliary Heater Heating Element (Z35) with Control Module (J604) ] Service and Repair.
15 Heater Core
• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed ] Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed.
• Check glued-on foam seals for damage and proper adhesion, refer to => [ Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed ] Heater Core With Front A/C Unit Installed.
