Timing Cover: Service and Repair



ENGINE FRONT COVER REPLACEMENT

^Tools Required: EN 46109 Engine Front Cover Installation Guide Pins

Removal Procedure
1. Remove the engine with the transmission and the frame from the vehicle. Removal and Replacement

Important: Do not disconnect the power steering pipes or drain the power steering fluid.

2. Remove the power steering pressure pipe/hose from the water outlet. Power Steering Pressure Pipe/Hose Replacement (LA1)

3. Remove the power steering reservoir and reposition to provide access. Power Steering Reservoir Outlet Pipe/Hose Replacement (LY7)

4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Service and Repair

5. Remove and reposition the power steering pump with the power steering pipe/hose.

6. Remove the water outlet. 13. Water Outlet Removal

7. Remove the upper and lower intake manifold. Service and Repair

8. Remove the camshaft covers. Service and Repair

9. Remove the idler pulley. Service and Repair

10. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Service and Repair

11. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Service and Repair

12. Remove the camshaft position actuator solenoids. Service and Repair





13. Remove the engine wiring harness from the engine front cover.

15. Disassemble the engine front cover if necessary. 81. Engine Front Cover Disassemble

Important:
^ Do NOT use sharp and/or metal gasket scrapers in order to clean the sealing surfaces.
^ Insert a piece of cardboard between the oil pan front and the oil pump in order to prevent any contaminants from falling into the oil pan.

16. Carefully clean the engine front cover sealing surfaces. 82. Engine Front Cover Clean and Inspect

17. Use compressed air in order to remove any engine coolant from the engine cooling passages and the top of the oil pan scraper (windage tray).

Installation Procedure
1. Assemble the engine front cover if necessary. 83. Engine Front Cover Assemble





2. Use the EN 46109 in order to install the engine front cover. 128. Engine Front Cover Installation






Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

3. Install the engine wiring harness from the engine front cover.
Tighten the engine front cover wiring harness bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).

4. Install the camshaft position actuator solenoids.

5. Install the crankshaft balancer.

6. Install the drive belt tensioner.

7. Install the idler pulley.

8. Install the camshaft covers.

9. Install the upper intake manifold with the lower intake manifold.

10. Install the water outlet.

11. Install the power steering pump with the power steering pipe/hose.

12. Instal the accessory drive belt.

13. Install the power steering fluid reservoir.

14. Install the power steering pressure pipe/hose to the water outlet.

15. Install the engine with the transmission and the frame to the vehicle.

16. Change the engine oil.
