Headliner Replacement
Tools Required
J 38778 Door Trim Clip Remover
Removal Procedure
Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.
1. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
2. Remove the sunshade retainers (3). Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement) .
3. Disconnect the electric connectors to the rear view mirror and to the front antenna.
4. Remove the power sunroof switch, if equipped. Refer to Sunroof Switch Replacement (Removal and Replacement) in Roof.
5. Remove the dome lamp, if equipped. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
6. Remove the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement - Front (Assist Handle Replacement - Front) and to Assist Handle Replacement - Rear (Assist Handle Replacement - Rear) .
7. Remove the side upper garnish molding from the windshield. Refer to Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) .
8. Remove the upper quarter trim panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper) .
9. Pull down on the door opening weatherstrip seal on both the front and the rear doors.
10. Remove the rear window trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Window Shelf (Service and Repair) .
11. Disconnect the headliner electrical harness connector, located behind the right rear speaker.
12. Disconnect the OnStar(R) electrical connector, if equipped.
13. Disconnect the headliner electrical harness and the antenna lead, located behind the left rear speaker.
14. Use J 38778 in order to remove the rear retainers (2).
15. Rotate the right front seatback to a horizontal position.
16. Remove the headliner (1) from the vehicle through the right front door.
Installation Procedure
Important: Do NOT bend the headlining too much when loading the headliner (1).
1. Install the headliner (1) in the vehicle through the right front door.
2. Install the headliner (1):
1. Align the sunshade holes in the headlining with the respective hole in the body structure.
2. Engage the front hook and the loop fasteners.
3. Connect the headliner electrical harness and the antenna lead, located behind the left rear speaker.
4. Connect the OnStar(R) electrical connector, if equipped.
5. Connect the headliner electrical harness connector, located behind the right rear speaker.
6. Install the rear window trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Window Shelf (Service and Repair) .
7. Install the rear retainers (2).
8. Install the door opening weatherstrip seal on both the front and the rear doors in order to hold the headliner (1) in place.
9. Install the center pillar upper trim panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Upper Center Pillar (Service and Repair) .
10. Install the upper quarter trim panels. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper (Trim Panel Replacement - Rear Quarter Upper) .
11. Install the side upper garnish molding to the windshield. Refer toGarnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar (Garnish Molding Replacement - Windshield Pillar) .
12. Install the assist handles. Refer to Assist Handle Replacement - Front (Assist Handle Replacement - Front) and to Assist Handle Replacement - Rear (Assist Handle Replacement - Rear) .
13. Install the dome lamp, if equipped. Refer toDome Lamp Replacement in Lighting Systems.
14. Install the power sunroof switch, if equipped. Refer to Sunroof Switch Replacement (Removal and Replacement) in Roof.
15. Connect the electric connector to the rear view mirror.
16. Install the sunshade retainers (1). Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement) .
17. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
