Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side




Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (LLT)

Removal Procedure
Warning: Refer to Hot Exhaust System Warning (Hot Exhaust System Warning).

Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning (Safety Glasses Warning).


1. Remove the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (V6) (Service and Repair)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (V6) (Service and Repair)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (L4) (Service and Repair).
2. Disconnect the left manifold heated oxygen sensor.
3. Remove the left exhaust manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side (LLT) (Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side).




4. Remove the left catalytic converter nuts (1), bolt (2) and seal (3), to the left exhaust manifold.




5. Remove the left exhaust manifold bolts (3) and gasket (2), from the cylinder head. Discard the old gasket.
6. If reusing the exhaust manifold, clean and inspect the exhaust manifold sealing surfaces. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Cleaning and Inspection - Right Side (86. Exhaust Manifold Cleaning and Inspection - Right Side).

Installation Procedure





Note: Inspect the catalytic converter seal/heat shield sealing surface. Replace the seal/heat shield if the sealing surface is worn or damaged.

1. Install a NEW exhaust manifold gasket (2) to the exhaust manifold.
2. Install the left exhaust manifold (1) with the gasket to the cylinder head.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

Note: Tighten the bolts starting at the center, alternating side-to-side, working outward.

Tighten
* First Pass: 10 Nm (7 lb ft).
* Final Pass: 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

3. Install the left exhaust manifold bolts (3).
4. Install the left manifold heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side (LLT) (Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side).
5. Connect the left exhaust manifold heated oxygen sensor.




6. Install the left catalytic converter nuts (1), bolt (2) and gasket (3). Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).




7. Install the right catalytic converter nuts (1) and gasket (2). Tighten to 50 Nm (37 lb ft).
8. Install the front exhaust pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (V6) (Service and Repair)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (V6) (Service and Repair)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (L4) (Service and Repair).
9. Connect the heated oxygen sensors.
10. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.
