Transmission Replacement

Special Tools

* CH-49290 - Centering Fixture Subframe - Engine

* CH-49647 - Basic Frame

* DT-47648 - Fixture

* EN-47649 - Engine Bridge

* EN-47650 - Retainer Frame

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.

2. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement Service and Repair.

3. Remove the shift lever cable from the selector on the transmission. Refer to Manual Transmission Shift Lever Cable Replacement Manual Transmission Shift Lever Cable Replacement.

4. Remove the clutch actuator cylinder hose. Refer to Clutch Actuator Cylinder Pipe Replacement Clutch Actuator Cylinder Pipe Replacement.

5. Remove the connector to the reverse light switch. Refer to Backup Lamp Switch Replacement Service and Repair.





6. Remove upper transmission fasteners (1).

7. Support the engine with EN-47649 - engine bridge and EN-47650 - retainer.

8. Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LHU) Service and RepairExhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LDK or LHU) Service and Repair.

9. Remove the subframe. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement.

10. Remove the transmission front mount. Refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement Transmission Front Mount Replacement.

11. Remove the transmission rear mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side.

12. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill.

13. Pull out the right driveshaft from the intermediate shaft and remove the intermediate shaft. Refer to Intermediate Shaft Replacement Intermediate Shaft Replacement.

14. Pull out the left driveshaft from the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side (GNA) Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side (GNA).

15. Lower the vehicle.

16. Remove the fasteners to the transmission bracket left side. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side.

17. Lower the engine enough to access the transmission.

18. Raise the vehicle.

19. Place the transmission fixture DT-47648 - on CH-49647 - frame and attach to the transmission in the holes where the front and rear brackets are mounted.





20. Remove the lower transmission fasteners (1).





21. Remove lower transmission fasteners (1).

22. Separate the transmission from the engine.

23. Remove the transmission from the DT-47648 - fixture.

Installation Procedure

1. Place the transmission to the DT-47648 - fixture.

2. Lubricate input shaft splines and the two guiding sleeves.

3. Attach transmission to the engine.





Caution:
Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.

4. Fit the lower transmission fasteners (1) and tighten to 60 Nm (44 lb ft).





5. Fit the lower transmission fasteners (1) and tighten to 60 Nm (44 lb ft).

6. Remove the transmission fixture DT-47648 - and CH-49647 - frame.

7. Lower the vehicle.

8. Raise the engine to the correct level with the EN-47649 - engine bridge.

9. Install the fasteners to the transmission bracket left side. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side.

10. Remove EN-47649 - engine bridge and EN-47650 - retainer.





11. Fit the upper transmission fasteners (1) and tighten to 60 Nm (44 lb ft).

12. Raise the vehicle.

13. Fit the rear transmission mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side

14. Fit the transmission front mount. Refer to Transmission Front Mount Replacement Transmission Front Mount Replacement.

15. Fit the intermediate shaft and the right driveshaft. Refer to Intermediate Shaft Replacement Intermediate Shaft Replacement.

16. Fit the left driveshaft to the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side (GNA) Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement - Left Side (GNA).

17. Fit the subframe. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement.

18. Fit the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LHU) Service and RepairExhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LDK or LHU) Service and Repair.

19. Fit the CH-49290 - centering fixture to check alignment.

20. Lower the vehicle.

21. Fill up the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill.

22. Fit the clutch actuator cylinder hose. Refer to Clutch Actuator Cylinder Pipe Replacement Clutch Actuator Cylinder Pipe Replacement.

23. Fit the shift lever cable to the selector on the transmission. Refer to Manual Transmission Shift Lever Cable Replacement Manual Transmission Shift Lever Cable Replacement.

24. Fit the connector to the reverse light switch. Refer to Backup Lamp Switch Replacement Service and Repair.

25. Fit the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement Service and Repair.

26. Fit the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
