B1535
DTC B1534 or B1535
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Strategy Based Diagnosis) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Diagnostic Procedure Instructions) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.
DTC Descriptors
DTC B1534 02
- Left Rear Door Handle Switch Circuit
DTC B1535 02
- Right Rear Door Handle Switch Circuit
Diagnostic Fault Information
Circuit/System Description
The left and right rear door handle switch signal circuit provides inputs to the keyless entry control module when the appropriate rear exterior door handle switch is activated. This input allows the keyless entry control module to detect a door open request. When the left or right rear door handle is activated, the switch closes and the voltage signal from the keyless entry control module is pulled to ground, the keyless entry control module will then send a command to the appropriate door module to unlock and unlatch the door.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The system voltage is 9-16 V.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The keyless entry control module detects a short to ground in the left rear or right rear door handle signal circuit.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
The affected door will not unlock when using the exterior rear door handle.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
* When the fault is no longer present, the DTC will be a history DTC.
* A history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification
With the doors closed and locked, approach the vehicle with the keyless entry transmitter and pull the exterior left rear door handle or the exterior right rear door handle. The appropriate door should unlock and unlatch allowing the door to be pulled open.
Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate B27 door handle switch - rear.
2. Test for less than 30ohm between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
• If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
3. Ignition ON, test for greater than 10 V between the signal circuit terminal 2 and ground.
• If less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K48 keyless entry control module.
4. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the B27 door handle switch - rear.
Component Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate B27 door handle switch - rear.
2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal 2 and the ground terminal 1 with the switch in the open position.
• If not the specified value, replace the B27 door handle switch - rear.
3. Test for less than 2 ohm between the signal terminal 2 and the ground terminal 1 with the switch in the closed position.
4. If greater than the specified range, replace the B27 door handle switch - rear.
Repair Instructions
