L110 HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL: HYBRID CONTROL SYSTEM: P0705-757: Transmission Range Sensor Circuit

DTC P0705-757 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit

DTC P0705-758 - Transmission Range Sensor Circuit

DTC P0851-775 - Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit Low

DESCRIPTION

The park / neutral position switch can send 8 different switch signals to the hybrid vehicle control ECU. The hybrid vehicle control ECU uses the signals to detect the shift lever position (P, R, N, or D). The hybrid vehicle control ECU also uses this information to determine intended direction of travel (forward or reverse).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
- Before inspecting the high-voltage system or disconnecting the low voltage connector of the inverter with converter assembly, take safety precautions such as wearing insulated gloves and removing the service plug grip to prevent electrical shocks. After removing the service plug grip, put it in your pocket to prevent other technicians from accidentally reconnecting it while you are working on the high-voltage system.
- After disconnecting the service plug grip, wait for at least 10 minutes before touching any of the high-voltage connectors or terminals. After waiting, check the voltage at the inspection point in the inverter with converter assembly. The voltage should be 0 V before beginning work.
HINT: Waiting for at least 10 minutes is required to discharge the high-voltage capacitor inside the inverter with converter assembly.

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU CONNECTOR)

(a) Check the connections of all hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors.
Result:
The connectors are connected securely and there are no contact problems.
NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. CHECK CONNECTOR CONNECTION CONDITION (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH)

(a) Check the connection of park/neutral position switch connector.
Result:
The connector is connected securely and there are no contact problems.
NG -- CONNECT SECURELY
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. CLEAR DTC
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Read and record the DTCs and freeze frame data.
(d) Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Trouble Codes.
(e) Clear the DTCs.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
4. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (SHIFT POSITION)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) While slowly moving the shift lever from P to D, and then back to the P position, read the data list "Shift Sensor Shift Pos" displayed on the Techstream.
HINT: Make sure to move the shift lever slowly.

Result:

(d) Check if DTCs are output.
Result:
DTCs P0705-757, P0705-758, and P0851-775 are not output.
OK -- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
NG -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT)

(a) Disconnect the park / neutral position switch connector.
(b) Turn the power switch on (IG).
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:

NOTE: Turning the power switch on (IG) with the park / neutral position switch connector disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (HV CONTROL ECU - PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH)

(a) Disconnect connector E84 from the hybrid vehicle control ECU.
(b) Disconnect connector E77 from the park / neutral position switch.
(c) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the power switch is on (IG).
Standard voltage:

NOTE: Turning the power switch on (IG) with the park / neutral position switch connector and hybrid vehicle control ECU connectors disconnected causes other DTCs to be stored. Clear the DTCs after performing this inspection.
(d) Turn the power switch off.
(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):

Standard resistance (Check for short):

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. INSPECT PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SENSOR
(a) Connect the park / neutral position switch connector.

(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance (Check for open):

Standard resistance (Check for short):

HINT: The resistance between terminals +BS and N should be 4.2 to 5.2 kOhms

NG -- REPLACE PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH
OK -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
8. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS
(a) Check for intermittent problems Check For Intermittent Problems.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE MALFUNCTIONING PARTS, COMPONENT AND AREA
OK -- REPLACE HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU
