C1716

SUSPENSION CONTROL: ADAPTIVE VARIABLE SUSPENSION SYSTEM: C1715-C1717,C1791-C1793: Front Acceleration Sensor RH

DESCRIPTION

The acceleration sensor detects the amount of vertical force applied to the vehicle when accelerating or decelerating (G (up and down)). The acceleration sensors are mounted at 3 spots, which are in the absorber control ECU and at the front and rear of the cabin, to independently detect the amount of vertical force applied to the vehicle. The acceleration sensor converts the resistance, which changes according to the acceleration level, into an electric signal, and outputs it to the absorber control ECU.

The absorber control ECU detects the changes in each signal when performing the Test Mode check and outputs the Test Mode DTCs (C1791, C1792, C1793) if there is no change.

HINT
- DTC C1715 and C1791 are for the right front acceleration sensor.
- DTC C1716 and C1792 are for the left front acceleration sensor.
- DTC C1717 and C1793 are for the rear acceleration sensor.
- Since the right front acceleration sensor is built into the absorber control ECU, replace the absorber control ECU when DTCs C1715 and C1791 are output.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
When replacing the absorber control ECU, check the acceleration sensor signal after replacement Adaptive Variable Suspension System.

HINT
- Check the condition of each related circuit connector before troubleshooting Electronic Circuit Inspection Procedure.
- When C1774 is output, inspect and repair the trouble areas indicated by C1774 first C1774.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

(a) Connect Techstream to the DLC3.

(b) Turn the power switch ON (IG) and turn the Techstream main switch ON.

(c) Select "DATA LIST" mode on Techstream Adaptive Variable Suspension System.

Absorber control ECU:

(d) Check that the value of the acceleration sensor reading on Techstream changes as the vehicle is bounced.

OK:

Acceleration value must change.

C -- INSPECT ACCELERATION SENSOR (for Rear)

B -- INSPECT ACCELERATION SENSOR (for Front LH)
A -- Continue to next step.

2. RECONFIRM DTC

(a) Clear the DTC Adaptive Variable Suspension System.

(b) Perform a road test.

(c) Check if the same DTC is detected Adaptive Variable Suspension System.

A -- REPLACE ABSORBER CONTROL ECU

3. INSPECT ACCELERATION SENSOR (for Front LH)

(a) Remove the front acceleration sensor Removal.

(b) Connect 3 1.5 V dry cell batteries in series.

(c) Connect terminal 3 (SGB) to the batterys' positive (+) terminal, and terminal 2 (SGG) to the batterys' negative (-) terminal.

(d) Measure the voltage of the sensor.

Standard voltage:

NOTICE:
- Do not apply a voltage of more than 6 V.
- Do not drop the acceleration sensor. If it is dropped, replace it with a new one.
- The removed acceleration sensor must not be placed upside down.

HINT
When the acceleration sensor is tilted, it may output a different value.

NG -- REPLACE ACCELERATION SENSOR

OK -- GO TO STEP 5

4. INSPECT ACCELERATION SENSOR (for Rear)

(a) Remove the rear acceleration sensor Removal.

(b) Connect the 3 1.5 V dry cell batteries in series.

(c) Connect terminal 3 (SGV) to the batterys' positive (+) terminal, and terminal 2 (SGND) to the batterys' negative (-) terminal.

HINT
When the acceleration sensor is tilted, it may output the different value.

NG -- REPLACE ACCELERATION SENSOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (ABSORBER CONTROL ECU - ACCELERATION SENSOR)

(a) for Front (C1716, C1792):

(1) Disconnect the U2 absorber control ECU connector and the K24 front acceleration sensor connector.

(2) Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

Standard resistance:

(b) for Rear (C1717, C1793):

(1) Disconnect the U2 absorber control ECU connector and the U26 rear acceleration sensor connector.

(2) Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

Standard resistance:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. RECONFIRM DTC

(a) Clear the DTC Adaptive Variable Suspension System.

(b) Perform a road test.

(c) Check if the same DTC is detected Adaptive Variable Suspension System.

HINT
Reinstall the sensor, connectors, etc. and restore the vehicle to its prior condition before rechecking for DTCs.
