Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS)
NOTICE: It is necessary to carry out the Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) system reset when a front passenger seat cushion is disassembled, a new trim cover is installed or an OCS system service kit is installed. A scan tool is used to carry out the OCS system reset command. Failure to follow this instruction may result in system failure and the incorrect operation of the OCS system.
NOTE: OCS system components [seat wiring harness, seat cushion frame, seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor and Occupant Classification System Module (OCSM)] are calibrated to each other and are serviced as an assembly. The OCS system components are not to be installed separately. If a new OCS system, OCS system component or seat cushion foam pad are needed, an OCS system service kit (seat cushion frame, seat cushion foam pad, bladder with pressure sensor, seat wiring harness and OCSM) must be installed as an assembly.
NOTE: To identify between a production OCS system and an OCS system service kit, inspect the OCSM electrical connector.
A production OCS system allows the disconnection of the OCSM electrical connector.
An OCS system service kit has the electrical connector glued to the OCSM; it cannot and should not be disconnected or altered.
The OCS system is standard equipment on all front passenger seats. For information on diagnosing or servicing the OCS system, refer to Supplemental Restraint System Testing and Inspection.
Lumbar Support
The seat has an electro-mechanical front seat backrest pad adjuster. The lumbar switch adjustment is on the inboard side of the front face of the front seat cushion.
Front Seat Track Motor and Transmission Assembly
NOTE: If a seat track motor is inoperative or the front seat track motor and transmission assembly is identified as the source of a noise, install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly.
The front seat track motor and transmission assembly on this vehicle is serviceable. To install a new front seat track motor and transmission assembly, partial disassembly of the seat track is required. Refer to Seat Track Motor Seat Track Motor.
Power Recliner
The power recliner moves the seat backrest rearward or forward and is controlled by the seat control switch.
Heated Seats (Front)
NOTE: If a passenger seat cushion heater mat is inoperative, a new OCS system service kit must be installed and a new cushion heater mat must be installed to the OCS system service kit foam pad.
NOTE: When installing an OCS system service kit equipped with heated seats, a new seat cushion heater mat must be installed. Do not reuse the OEM OCS cushion heater mat. The OCS system service kit does not come with a cushion heater mat.
NOTE: When installing a new driver seat heater mat (cushion or backrest) or passenger seat backrest heater mat, a new foam pad with the heater mat already attached is required. A new seat heater mat by itself is not available for service for the driver seat.
Each heated seat is controlled by a switch on the door trim panel.
The heated seat system:
- will have one heated seat module attached to the inside of the passenger front door trim panel.
- will only operate with the ignition switch in RUN.
- will operate with battery voltage as low as 9 volts.
- will maintain a temperature automatically once it is selected.
- will heat to the selected temperature each time the ignition switch is turned to RUN if the heated seat is not switched OFF.
Driver Seat Module (DSM)
The Driver Seat Module (DSM) is attached to the driver seat track. Refer to Multifunction Electronic Modules Service and Repair for removal and installation.
Easy Entry/Easy Exit
The easy entry/easy exit feature of the driver seat moves the seat 50.8 mm (2 in) rearward when the ignition key is removed.
The easy entry/easy exit feature of the driver seat moves the seat 50.8 mm (2 in) forward when:
- the ignition switch is turned to RUN.
- the driver door is opened, then closed.
Memory Seat
The memory seat system allows the recall of previously stored positions of the driver seat using the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter or the memory SET/recall switch located on the door panel. This system allows automatic positioning of the driver seat, power outside rear view mirrors and power adjustable pedals (if equipped) to 2 programmable positions. Memory positions can be stored at any time. A memory recall can be initiated only if the vehicle is in PARK or NEUTRAL and the ignition switch is not in START. A memory recall in progress will not be affected by moving the ignition switch to START or by moving the gearshift lever out of PARK or NEUTRAL. For information on programming memory positions or recalling a stored memory position, refer to Memory Position Programming Programming and Relearning.
Memory Seat Position Sensors
On vehicles with a driver memory seat, the driver power seat track is equipped with memory seat position sensors for monitoring the horizontal, front height and rear height. The memory seat position sensors are located on each of the seat track motors and are serviced separately from the power seat track assembly. The driver memory seat also has a memory seat position sensor for the backrest recliner. The recliner sensor is serviced as an assembly with the motor and recliner mechanism.
After installing a new memory seat position sensor, the driver seat must be operated through the full range of travel to reset that sensor. For example, if only a new horizontal memory seat position sensor was installed, position the seat all the way forward and then rearward.
Side Air Bag
WARNING: Front seat backrest trim covers installed on seats equipped with seat side air bags cannot be repaired. A new trim cover must be installed. Cleaning is permissible. Failure to follow these instructions may result in the seat side air bag module deploying incorrectly and increase the risk of serious personal injury or death in a crash.
Driver and passenger side air bags are attached to the seat backrest frame. For diagnostic information or if the side air bag has been deployed, refer to Supplemental Restraint System Testing and Inspection.
If a side air bag deployment took place, a new seat backrest foam pad, trim cover and side air bag module must be installed. Install a new seat backrest frame, if necessary.
Belt Tension Sensor (BTS)
The Belt Tension Sensor (BTS) is part of the safety belt buckle on the front outboard passenger seat only. It is part of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). It connects electrically to the passenger seat wire harness. For diagnostic information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System Testing and Inspection. For specific removal and installation information, refer to Safety Belt System Safety Belt Buckle - Front.
Rear Seats
Rear seats have the following serviceable items:
- Seat backrest attached to the parcel shelf sheet metal and rear floor pan
- Seat backrest foam pad attached to the backrest frame (includes heater mats, if equipped)
- Seat backrest cover attached to the backrest foam pad
- Seat armrest attached to the seat backrest (if equipped)
- Heated seat modules attached to the backrest foam pad (if equipped)
- Redundant front passenger seat control switch attached to the seat armrest (if equipped)
- Seat cushion attached to the rear floor pan
- Seat cushion foam pad attached to the cushion frame (included heater mats, if equipped)
- Seat cushion cover attached to the cushion foam pad
- RH and LH heated seat switches attached to rear door trim panels
Heated Seats
Signature L rear seats are equipped with the heated seat system at the LH and RH side positions.
Each heated seat is controlled by a switch on the rear door trim panel.
The heated seat system:
- will only operate with the ignition switch in RUN.
- will operate with battery voltage as low as 9 volts.
- will automatically maintain a temperature once it is selected.
- will heat to the selected temperature each time the ignition switch is turned to RUN if the heated seat is not switched OFF.
