Function of Shift Lock

FUNCTION
- The term shift-lock covers those functions in addition to the parking brake which serve to prevent the vehicle from rolling away unintentionally and are combined under the designation shift lock.

- These include the parking lock in the transmission and the locking function of the selector lever position "P".

- The shift-lock function only enables a drive stage to be engaged from selector lever position "P" if the transmitter key has been turned to the "ignition" position and the brake pedal is operated. The vehicle is secured mechanically by locking the parking lock gear.

- To ensure that the selector lever is turned to selector lever position "P" after the vehicle is parked, the transmitter key can only be turned towards "O" in this position and removed from the electronic ignition/starter switch control module.

- At the same time the function also serves as an anti-theft lock. For this reason it is not possible to move the selector lover out of the position "P" if one of the following components fails:
^ Electronic ignition/starter switch control module
^ Electronic shift lever module control module
^ Voltage
^ CAN data bus
^ Stop lamp switch
^ R/P blocking magnet
