Timing Cover: Service and Repair




Engine Front Cover Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill With HP5) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill Without HP5) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill With HP5) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill Without HP5) (Service and Repair).
2. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (Service and Repair).
3. Remove catalytic converter - left side. refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LZ4) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LY7 ) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side)Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LCS) (Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side).
4. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove air conditioning compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (HP5) (Service and Repair)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LZ4) (Service and Repair)Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LAT, LE5) (Service and Repair).
6. Remove the crankshaft position actuator magnet. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Replacement (Service and Repair).
7. Remove the thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LAT) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LE5) (Service and Repair).
8. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (L4) (Service and Repair)Water Pump Replacement (LCS/LY7) (Service and Repair)Water Pump Replacement (LZ4) (Service and Repair).
9. Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Service and Repair).




11. Remove the engine front cover bolts.
12. Remove the engine front cover.
13. Remove the engine front cover gasket.
14. Clean and transfer any parts as needed.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the engine front cover gasket.
2. Install the engine front cover.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the engine front cover bolts and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Install the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Install the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (L4) (Service and Repair)Water Pump Replacement (LCS/LY7) (Service and Repair)Water Pump Replacement (LZ4) (Service and Repair).
6. Install the thermostat housing. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LAT) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LY7) (Service and Repair)Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing Replacement (LE5) (Service and Repair).
7. Install the crankshaft position actuator magnet. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Magnet Replacement (Service and Repair).
8. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement (Service and Repair).
10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill With HP5) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill Without HP5) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill With HP5) (Service and Repair)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716 Fill Without HP5) (Service and Repair).
11. Fill the engine with oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (Service and Repair).
