Erasing DTC Memory (Function 05)

Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 adaptor cable


Test Conditions
- All DTCs eliminated


NOTE: After eliminating any stored DTCs, check DTC memory again as follows and then erase


Work Sequence

- Connect VAG 155111552 Scan Tool. [1][2]Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select Address word 01: "Engine electronics"
- Ensure that engine is running at idle

Display will appear as shown

- Press 0 and 2 buttons to select Function 02 "Check DTC memory"
- Press Q button to enter input
- Press -> button until all stored DTCs have been displayed and the Scan Tool display appears as shown

- Press 0 and 5 buttons to select Function 05: "Erase DTC memory"
- Press Q button to enter input

Display will appear as shown

DTC memory is erased!


NOTE: If DTC memory will not erase, there is still a malfunction stored in the system which must be corrected.

Automatic test sequence

During test and assembly work, malfunctions can be recognized from other Control Modules e.g. connector disconnected. Therefore after completion of repairs all Control Module DTC memories must be checked and erased, as follows:
- Press 0 button twice to select Address word 00: "Automatic test sequence"
- Press Q button to enter input
- VAG 1551/1552 transmits all known Address words in sequence one after the other.


NOTES: When a Control Module answers with its identification, either the number of stored DTCs appears on the display or "No DTCs recognized."

Any stored system malfunctions will be displayed one after the other and printed out. The VAG 7551 will then transmit the next Address word.

Automatic test process ends when display appears as shown:


VAG - On Board Diagnostic HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer*
2 - Blink code output*


- Erase all DTC memories and then make a road test.
- During road test, create Readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
- Again check DTC memories of all Control Modules using Address word 00 "Automatic test sequence".

If no DTCs stored:

- Press -> button.
