Muffler: Service and Repair






Muffler with Mounts Overview






1 Suspended Mount

Replace if damaged

2 Bolt

25 Nm

3 Retaining Loop

Replace if damaged

4 Nut

25 Nm

5 To Vacuum Control Module

Installed location: behind the left rear wheel.

Individual components, refer to => [ Vacuum Control Unit, Individual Components ].

6 Vacuum Actuator

Use the hand vacuum pump (VAS 6213) to check operation.

7 Rear Muffler

Original equipment as one unit with the center muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.

Separating exhaust system.

Install the exhaust system free of stress. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.

8 Suspended Mount with Retaining Loops

Replace if damaged

9 Bolt

25 Nm

10 Rear Clamping Sleeve

Align the exhaust system before tightening. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.

Tighten bolts evenly

Clamping sleeve location, refer to => [ Rear Clamping Sleeve Installed Position ] Description and Operation.

11 Center Muffler

Original equipment as one unit with rear muffler. For repairs, replace each separately.

Separating the exhaust system.

12 Front Clamping Sleeve

Align the exhaust system before tightening. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.

Clamping sleeve location, refer to => [ Clamping Sleeves ] Description and Operation.

Tighten bolts evenly

13 Nut

25 Nm

5 To vacuum reservoir
6 Exhaust door valve 1 (N321)
7 From exhaust flap vacuum actuator => [ (Item 6) Vacuum Actuator ]
