Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque wrench (5-50 Nm) (VAG 1331)

Torque wrench (40-200 Nm) (VAG 1332)

Removing

- Remove the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and the HO2S 2. Refer to => [ Heated Oxygen Sensor and Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 ] Heated Oxygen Sensor and Heated Oxygen Sensor 2.

- If present, remove the bracket bolt - arrow - from the front exhaust pipe.





- Remove the front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold nuts - arrows - accessible from the top.





- Remove the center noise insulation fasteners - 1, 2 and 3 - and the noise insulation.





- Remove the right front part of the wheel housing liners.





- Remove the three screws - arrows - on the right floor panel cover.





- Disconnect the Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) - 1 - and O2S 2 behind TWC - 2 - connectors on the floor panel.

- Remove the connection coupling from the bracket and free up the wiring to the O2S behind TWC and O2S 2 behind TWC.

- Remove the front exhaust pipe to exhaust manifold nuts - arrows - accessible from bottom.





- Remove the front underbody crossmember by removing the nuts - 1 and 2 -.





Do not bend the flex joints in front of the exhaust pipe more than 20 degrees or they may be damaged.

- Separate the exhaust system at the clamping sleeve - 3 -.

- Remove the suspended mount bolts - arrows -.





- Remove the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converters.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following.

Replace the gaskets and self locking nuts.

- Align the exhaust system free of tension. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.
