Selector Mechanism and Cable, from 11 September 2009

Short Description






The selector mechanism and the selector lever cable cannot be separated from each other. Both are removed at the same time. It may be necessary to create some open space in the engine compartment. Many times it is necessary to remove the air filter housing.

Remove the center console inside the passenger compartment.

It is necessary to remove the heat shield under the vehicle.

The selector mechanism with cable can be removed and installed together with the selector housing. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism and Housing, from 11 September 2009 ] Selector Mechanism and Housing, from 11 September 2009.

• Check the cable for ease of movement after installing it.

- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.

- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Shift Lever Handle.

- Remove the center console.

- Disconnect the harness connector from the selector mechanism.

- Remove the air filter housing.

- Pry the cable - 1 - off the selector shaft lever - 3 - using a wrench - 2 -.






The tabs on the selector lever cable break very easily. The complete selector mechanism with selector lever cable must be replaced if one of the tabs breaks off.

- Squeeze the tabs on the selector lever cable - arrows - and remove the selector lever cable from the cable bracket.

- Do not bend the cable.

- Disconnect the selector lever cable - 1 - from the bracket - arrow - on the transmission.






- Part of the exhaust system must now be removed in order to remove the cable and/or the selector mechanism.

- Remove the heat shield.

- Remove the 4 bolts.

- Remove the selector mechanism.






Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal.

- Put the vehicle and the transmission in "P" before installing the cable.

- Before positioning the ball head: Check the cable, refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Checking ] Testing and Inspection.

- Install the exhaust system.

- Install the heat shield.

- Install the center console.

- Adjust the selector lever cable after installing. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.
