Selector Mechanism and Housing, from 11 September 2009

Short Description






The selector mechanism and the selector lever cable cannot be separated from each other. Both are removed with the selector housing.

Remove the center console inside the passenger compartment.

It is necessary to remove the heat shield under the vehicle.

It is possible to remove and install the selector mechanism with the cable, without the selector housing. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism and Cable, from 11 September 2009 ] Selector Mechanism and Cable, from 11 September 2009.

• After installation, the selector lever cable movement must be checked and adjusted.

Removing

- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Shift Lever Handle.

- Remove the center console.

- Disconnect the harness connector from the selector mechanism.

- Remove the air filter housing.

- Pry the cable - 1 - off the selector shaft lever - 3 - using a wrench - 2 -.






The tabs on the selector lever cable break very easily. The complete selector mechanism with cable must be replaced if one of the tabs breaks off.

- Squeeze the tabs on the selector lever cable - arrows - and remove the selector lever cable from the cable bracket.

- Do not bend the cable.

- Disconnect the selector lever cable - 1 - from the bracket - arrow - on the transmission.






- Lift the vehicle.

- Part of the exhaust system must now be removed in order to remove the cable and/or the selector mechanism.

- Remove the heat shield.

with All Wheel Drive (AWD

- Remove the driveshaft.

• A second technician is required under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.






• Remove the bracket with the access/start system antenna 1 in vehicle interior (if equipped) from the front stud bolts on the selector mechanism.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - in the vehicle interior.

- Remove the selector mechanism with the cable and housing downward.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal.

• Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

• Do not lubricate the selector lever cable.

- Push the selector lever cable carefully onto the selector lever and insert it into the cable bracket.

- Install the driveshaft.

- Install the exhaust system.

- Install the heat shield

- Install the center console.

- Install the selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Shift Lever Handle.

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Check the selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] Component Tests and General Diagnostics.
