Thermostat: Service and Repair
Thermostat
Do not remove the pressure cap while the system is hot or under pressure. Serious burns from coolant can occur.
Removing
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.
- Loosen and reposition the radiator upper hose clamp at the thermostat housing (1).
- Remove the radiator upper hose from the thermostat housing (1).
- Remove the thermostat housing bolts (2).
- Remove the thermostat housing, thermostat, and gasket.
Installing
- Clean the thermostat housing sealing surfaces.
- Install the thermostat and gasket into the thermostat housing. For ease of installation, install the bolts into the housing for thermostat and gasket retention.
- Position the thermostat housing to the intake manifold. Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 12 Nm (106 in lbs).
- Install radiator upper hose to the thermostat housing (1).
- Position and Tighten the radiator upper hose clamp at the thermostat housing (1).
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Cooling System Draining and Filling ] Cooling System Draining and Filling.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
