Fluid - A/T: Testing and Inspection






ATF Level, Checking and Filling

Note the following information:

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Used Oil Collecting and Extracting Device (V.A.G 1782)

Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing and Information System (VAS 5051)

Drip Tray for VAS 6100 (VAS 6208)

Adapter for Oil Filling (VAS 6262)

Adapter for Filling ATF Oil (VAS 6262/2)

Use the ATF available as a replacement part.

- When checking the ATF level, always replace the seal - arrow - on the inspection plug.





Checking

- Turn off the engine.

The ATF temperature must not be more than approximately 30 °C (86 °F) at the start of the test.

Transmission is not in emergency running mode, and ATF temperature is not higher than 30 °C (86 °F).

Vehicles is must be on a flat level surface.

The selector level is in the "P" position.

- Connect the tester and move through the selections until it is ready for operation. Refer to => [ Tester, Connecting ] Scan Tool Testing and Procedures.

- Press the right Guided Functions.

- Then select the vehicle, transmission and Check ATF Level.

- Press the -> button.

- Start the engine.

- Lift the vehicle.

- Place a drip tray under the transmission.

- Press the -> button.

If the test temperature 35 to 45 °C (95 to 113 °F) is displayed:

- Remove the inspection plug - arrow - in the oil pan.





ATF flows out of the overflow pipe.





If the ATF continues to leak out of the overflow pipe:

The ATF does not need to be topped off.

- Install the inspection plug with a new seal and tighten it to 27 Nm. The ATF level test is now completed.

If no ATF drips out of the overflow pipe:

- Fill the ATF. Refer to => [ Filling ].

Filling

- Install and tighten the (VAS 6262/2) to the inspection plug hole hand tight with the engine running.





- Fill with 1 liter of ATF.

- Tighten the (VAS 6262) to the quick release coupling and check:

If the ATF flows out of the hole:

The ATF does not need to be topped off.

- Allow the ATF to drain until it drips.

- Install and tighten the inspection plug with a new seal to 27 Nm. The ATF level test is now completed.

If the ATF does not drip:

- Fill with another liter.

CAUTION!
Too little or too much ATF will impair the transmission. If 2 liters are missing, you should check the transmission more closely. There is probably a larger leak.

Draining and Filling

- Turn off the engine.

- Remove the inspection plug in the oil pan - arrow -.





- Remove the overflow pipe - 1 - through the hole.





- Drain the ATF.

- Install the overflow pipe.

- Install the inspection plug hand tight.

- Fill with 3 liters of ATF through the fill tube.

- Start the engine, shift through all selector lever positions, you must remain in each position approximately 10 seconds.

- Check the ATF level and add if necessary. Refer to => [ ATF Level, Checking and Filling ] Testing and Inspection.
