Rocker Arms and Shaft
Removing
- Remove the rocker arm covers. Refer to => [ Rocker Arm Cover, Left ] Rocker Arm Cover, Left, and/or => [ Rocker Arm Cover, Right ] Rocker Arm Cover, Right.
• The rocker arm shaft bolts are captured by the shaft.
- Loosen the rocker arm shaft bolts (2) , rotating one turn each, until the valve spring pressure is relieved.
- Remove the rocker arms and shaft assembly (1).
- Disassemble the rocker arm and shaft assembly, if required. Refer to => [ Rocker Arms and Shaft ] Overhaul.
Installing
Ensure the longer shaft retaining bolt is installed in the proper location on the rocker shaft.
- Position the rocker arm (1) and shaft on the pedestal mounts.
Ensure all pushrods are properly located on the lifter and the rocker arm socket.
- Align each rocker arm socket with each pushrod end.
The rocker arm shaft should be tightened down slowly, starting with the center bolts. Allow 20 minutes lifter bleed down time after Installation of the rocker shafts before engine operation.
- Slowly tighten the rocker shaft bolts (2) evenly until the shaft is seated. Tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft lbs).
- Install the rocker arm covers. Refer to => [ Rocker Arm Cover, Left ] Rocker Arm Cover, Left , and/or => [ Rocker Arm Cover, Right ] Rocker Arm Cover, Right.
