Radiator: Service and Repair






Radiator, Removing and Installing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drip tray (V.A.G 1306) or drip tray for workshop crane (VAS 6208)






Torque wrench (V.A.G 1331)






Hose clip pliers VAS 6362

Perform the following:

Removing

- Remove the air shroud with the radiator fans. Refer to => [ Coolant Fan and Coolant Fan 2, Removing and Installing ] Service and Repair.

- Drain the coolant. Refer to => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.

- Open the spring clamps - arrows - and remove the coolant hoses from the radiator.






- Remove the front bumper cover. Refer to Front Bumper Cover; Front Bumper Cover, Removing and Installing.

Vehicles with A/C


To prevent damage to the condenser and the refrigerant lines, do not stretch, kink or bend the pipes and hoses.

- Remove the air guides - 3 - at the bottom.






- Remove the bolts - 1 - from the condenser.

Continuation for all vehicles

- Remove the bolts - 2 - from the radiator mounts.

- Push the radiator to the rear and remove the radiator mounts (=> [ (Item 9) Mount ] Cooling System Components, Body Side, Assembly Overview).

- Remove the radiator from its mounts in the lock carrier => [ (Item 10) Support ] Cooling System Components, Body Side, Assembly Overview.

Installing

Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal. When doing this note the following:

- Fill the coolant. Refer to => [ Cooling System, Draining and Filling ] Cooling System, Draining and Filling.
