Transmission, Removing
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Bolts (3282/45)
• Adjustment Plate (3282/31)
• Transmission Support (3282)
• Transmission Support Jig (3336)
• Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A)
• Socket, Multipoint Bix XZN 14 (T10061)
• Engine Support Basic Set (T40091)
• Transmission mounting elements, (when mounting the adjustment plate (3282/31) on the transmission support (3282))
- Determine whether a coded radio is installed. If so, obtain the anti-theft code.
- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable.
- Remove the air filter housing.
- Remove the battery and the battery tray.
- Remove the shift cable lock washer - arrow 1 - from the selector lever - B -.
- Remove the shift cable from the pin.
- Remove the cable retainer from the selector cable, refer to => [ Disconnecting the Cable
Retainer from the Selector Cable ] Shift Mechanism.
- Remove the relay lever - A - and the cable retainer. Refer to => [ Plastic Relay Lever ] Plastic Relay Lever.
- Remove the nut - arrow 2 - and remove the transmission shift lever - B -.
- Remove the cable bracket support bolts - arrows - from the transmission.
- Tie up the shift cable and the selector cable.
- Disconnect the line between the master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder - A - from the bracket - B -.
- Remove the slave cylinder bolts - arrows - and lay aside, secure with wire, do not open the hydraulic system.
CAUTION!
Do not press the clutch pedal any more.
- Remove the ground cable - 1 - from the bolt on the top of the starter.
- Disconnect the connector - 2 - and remove the wire from the starter - 3 -.
- Remove the upper bolt on the starter.
- Remove the upper engine/transmission bolts.
- Remove the plenum chamber cover.
- Install the (10 - 222 A) and support the engine and transmission. Do not lift the vehicle.

- Raise the vehicle and remove the left front wheel.
- Remove the noise insulation.
- Remove the left front wheel housing liner.
Vehicles with Power Steering
- Remove the bracket with the power steering line - A - from the transmission - arrows -.
Continuation For All
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the backup lamp switch (F4).
- If a nut - 2 - is installed, it must be removed now.
- Remove the bracket from the lower starter bolt, if equipped.
- Remove the lower bolt - 3 - from the starter and remove the starter.
- Separate the exhaust system at the double clamp and remove the exhaust pipe bracket from the subframe.
- Remove the heat shield bolts - arrows - and shield from above the right drive axle.
- Remove the drive axles from the flange shafts and tie them up as high as possible. Be careful not to damage the surface protection.
- Remove the pendulum support.
- Remove the engine/transmission bolt - arrow - in the area of the right flange shaft. Use (T10061) to do this.
- Remove the cover plate - A - - arrows -.
- Remove the engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts - arrows -.
- Carefully move the engine/transmission subassembly into an angled position. Lower the engine/transmission subassembly using the spindles on the (10 - 222 A).
• The bolts - arrows - for the transmission mount must be accessible.
- Remove the transmission mount to transmission mount bracket bolts - arrows -.
To remove the transmission , the (3282) must be equipped the (3282/31).
- Install the (3282) to the (V.A.G 1383A).
- Align the arms on the (3282) so that they match up with the holes in the (3282/31).
- Install the support elements - A - as illustrated on the (3282/31).
- Install the (3282/45) instead of the support element - C -.
- Position the (V.A.G 1383A) under the vehicle. The arrow symbol - B - on the (3282/31) points in direction of travel.
- Align the (3282/31) so that it is parallel to the transmission.
- A - = (3282/45) with M8 collar nut.
- Install the M8 collar nut on the (3282/45) to secure the transmission.
- Remove the engine/transmission bolt - arrow -.
- Remove the lower engine/transmission bolts.
- Remove the transmission from the alignment bushings and carefully move it toward the subframe.
- Be careful of the intermediate plate on the engine.
- Push the engine forward slightly with a 2nd technician.
- Then carefully guide the transmission with the right flange shaft, as shown, onto flywheel/intermediate plate - arrow 2 -.
- Lower the transmission carefully. When doing this, be careful of the subframe - arrow 1 -.
- Guide the transmission past the power steering line and past the subframe when lowering it.
- Use the spindles on the (3282) to adjust the position of the transmission while lowering it.
• Pay attention to the lines when lowering the transmission.
