DTC 323
EBG. Code 3-2-3
3-2-3 Lock-up slips or is disengaged.
DTC information
Conditions for DTC
The control module calculates the ratio between the input rpm to the torque converter (engine speed) and the transmission speed after the torque converter. If the control module detects a difference between the engine rpm and the transmission rpm in excess of 100 rpm, even though the lock-up function is activated, the DTC 3-2-3 is set.
Substitution value
Control Module GROUP I:
The transmission control module (TCM) "Emergency mode" program has been initiated
Control Module GROUP II:
The transmission control module (TCM) Emergency mode I" program has been initiated.
Defect cause
- Contact resistance in connections.
- Mechanical fault in the transmission
Fault symptom
- Rough gear shifting due to maximum system pressure in the transmission
- No Lock-Up operational.
- A noise or some obvious mechanical fault is the most common indication of a mechanical fault in the transmission.
- Fault-tracing starts with EBG1.
EBG1
Checking for mechanical faults in the transmission.
- Ignition ON.
- Clear DTCs
The transmission should have normal operating temperature when test driving because lock-up engagement is dependent on the temperature of the oil in the transmission.
Mechanical Specifications Transmission Shift Speed for Mechanical Lock-up in Specifications for the driving conditions that must be met in order for the lock-up to engage/disengage.
Test drive the car as per Test Drive Form. Test Aide Drive Form
If the transmission does not show any mechanical malfunction:
- Checking resistance in solenoid SL circuit EBG2.
If the transmission has a mechanical malfunction and DTC 3-2-3 is not reset:
- See diagnostic code 1-1-1 for symptoms and procedures. DTC 111
If the transmission has a mechanical malfunction and DTC 3-2-3 is reset:
- Try a new transmission as per U1-U65.
EBG2
Checking resistance in solenoid SL circuit
- Ignition ON.
- Connect test box and check ground points as per GB1-GB2 GB. Connecting the Test Box
- TCM disconnected.
Connect ohmmeter between test box terminals #9 (#A9) and #20 (#A20).
The ohmmeter should read 10-15 Ohms.
If reading is OK:
- Test drive as per EBG3.
If reading is incorrect:
- Check and correct the transmission connector for contact resistance and oxidation as per FA6. FA. Checking Wiring and Connections
Then continue with: Test drive as per EBG3.
EBG3
Test driving:
- Ignition ON.
- Reconnect connectors etc.
- Clear any DTC's set.
Refer to Mechanical Lock-up in Specifications for the driving conditions that must be met in order for the lock-up to engage/disengage. Mechanical Specifications Transmission Shift Speed.
The transmission should have normal operating temperature when test driving because lock-up engagement is dependent on the temperature of the oil in the transmission.
Test drive the car as per Test Drive Form. Test Aide Drive Form
If the DTC is reset and/or the transmission operation indicates a mechanical malfunction:
- Try a new transmission as per U1-U65.
