Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard/steering hanger beam.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard/steering hanger beam, the body, or the related parts.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

2. Remove these items:

- Kick panels, both sides Service and Repair
- A-pillar trim, both sides
- Center console Center Console Removal / Installation
- Utility pocket housing Utility Pocket Housing Removal / Installation
- Instrument fascia Instrument Fascia Removal / Installation
- Passenger's dashboard undercover Passenger's Dashboard Undercover Removal / Installation
- Glove box Glove Box Removal / Installation
- Shift lever A/T Shift Lever Removal
- Steering column Steering Column Removal/Installation

3. Remove the hood release handle Hood Release Handle Replacement.

Driver's side

4. From under the dash, disconnect the keyless access control unit connectors (A), the brake pedal position switch connector (B), the left side wire harness connectors (C), and the engine compartment wire harness connectors (D). And disconnect the dashboard wire harness connectors (E) from the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box (F), then detach the wire harness clips.

NOTE: Lift the white wire harness connector locks (H) before trying to remove the connectors from the fuse box.










Middle portion (shift lever portion)

5. Disconnect and detach the left side wire harness connectors (B, C), and detach the wire harness clips (D), then remove the rear vent duct A (E). Disconnect the SRS unit connector A from the SRS unit, and the yaw rate acceleration sensor connector (F). Remove the ground bolt (G) with a TORX T30 bit.






Center (passenger's side)

6. From under the dash, disconnect the PCM subharness A connectors (A), the PCM subharness B connector (B), and the ACC unit connector (C), then detach the connector clip (D) and the harness clip (E).






Passenger's side

7. From under the dash, disconnect the front passenger's door subharness connector (A), the A/C wire harness connectors (B), the right side wire harness connectors (C), the engine compartment wire harness connector (D), and the antenna lead connector (E). And disconnect the dashboard wire harness connectors (F) from the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box (G).





8. Detach all of the harness clips and the connector clips.

9. Open the passenger's door, and gently pull out along the rear edge of the dashboard side lid (A) to release the hooks (B), then remove the passenger's dashboard side lid.






10. Open the driver's door, remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C), and loosen the two bolts (D). And lift up the dashboard (E) to release it from the guide pins (F, G).

NOTE: Before removing the dashboard/steering hanger beam, make sure all the harnesses have been disconnected.





11. Carefully remove the dashboard/steering hanger beam through the front door opening.

NOTE: Lay the dashboard on its front or back. Do not rest it on the lower console opening or you may damage it.

12. Remove the bolts, then remove the center bracket (A).






13. Install the dashboard/steering hanger beam in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Reinstall the center bracket on the center frame, and slightly tighten the mounting bolts. Reinstall the dashboard on the body. After tightening the dashboard mounting bolts and the nut, tighten the center bracket mounting bolts and center frame mounting bolts.
- Make sure the dashboard/steering hanger beam fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the bolts securing the center bracket and the dashboard before reinstallation.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure each connector is plugged in properly.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
- If necessary, adjust the shift cable Adjustments.
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
- Do the steering column position memorization Programming and Relearning.
