SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 76-61, 76-62
DTC 76-61:
No Signal From the E-Pretensioner Unit
DTC 76-62:
Non-stipulated Response Data From the E-Pretensioner Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 76-61 or 76-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 4.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
5. Check the No. 2 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the No. 2-5 (30 A) fuse and the No. 2-6 (30 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box.
Are the fuses OK?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Replace the faulty fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the wire harness (floor wire harness or right engine compartment wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the under-hood fuse/relay box Under-Hood Fuse/Relay Box Removal and Installation or the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box Drivers Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box (Drivers MICU) Removal and Installation, then clear the DTC.
6. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
7. Remove the front passenger's seat Front Seat Removal / Installation.
8. Remove the passenger's center console trim.
9. Disconnect E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) from the E-pretensioner unit.
10. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
12. Measure the voltage between E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 8 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 13.
NO -
Open in the dashboard wire harness or floor wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
13. Measure the voltage between E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 12 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 14.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness or right engine compartment wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
15. Disconnect E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) from the E-pretensioner unit.
16. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
17. Measure the voltage between E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) terminal No. 2 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 18.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness or right engine compartment wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
18. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
19. Measure the resistance between body ground and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminals No. 10 and No. 11 individually. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness, or poor connection at the ground G651, or poor connection at the E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) and the E-pretensioner unit. Check the connectors; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
20. Measure the resistance between E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) terminal No. 5 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 21.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness, or poor connection at the ground G651, or poor connection at the E-pretensioner unit connector A (5P) and the E-pretensioner unit. Check the connectors; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
21. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
22. Disconnect SRS unit connect B (39P) from the SRS unit.
23. Remove the front seat back panel Service and Repair.
24. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit.
25. Remove the cover from the ODS unit.
26. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
27. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1M Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 28.
NO -
Short to ground in the floor wire harness; replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
28. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 6. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty E-pretensioner unit; replace the E-pretensioner unit Removal and Replacement.
NO -
Open in the harness between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 6 (dashboard wire harness or floor wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
