DTC 85-61:
No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 85-62:
Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.
- These DTCs are codes that relate to the ODS unit operation.
1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 85-61 or 85-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
6. Check the No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short to ground in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box Drivers Under-Dash Fuse/Relay Box (Drivers MICU) Removal and Installation, then clear the DTC.
7. Remove the front seat back panel Service and Repair.
8. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit.
9. Remove the cover from the ODS unit.
10. Check the connection between the ODS unit 18P connector (A) and the ODS unit.
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Repair the poor connector connection, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 85-61 or 85-62 is still present, go to step 11.
11. Disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit.
12. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
13. Measure the voltage between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 14.
NO -
Open in the dashboard wire harness, the floor wire harness, or the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
15. Measure the resistance between ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 12 and body ground. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness or the front passenger's seat wire harness; check for a poor ground connection at G651. If the ground is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
16. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
17. With ACC: Disconnect E-pretensioner unit connector B (14P) from the E-pretensioner unit Removal and Replacement.
18. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
19. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Short to ground in the floor wire harness or the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
20. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 21.
NO -
Open in the harness between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and ODS unit 18P connector terminal No. 7 (floor wire harness or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
21. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
22. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
23. Measure the voltage between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES -
Go to step 24.
