Headliner: Service and Repair

Headlining Trim Panel Replacement


Tools Required
* J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover
* J 2772-C Headliner Installer



Removal Procedure





1. Remove the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) in Roof.
2. Remove the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement) in Roof.
3. Disconnect the electric connector to the rear view mirror.
4. Remove the overhead console, if equipped. Refer to Roof Console Replacement (With Storage) (Roof Console Replacement (With Storage)) .
5. Remove the power sunroof switch, if equipped. Refer to Sunroof Switch Replacement Service and Repair in Roof.
6. Remove the dome light, if equipped.
7. Remove the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement (Coupe) (Coat Hook Replacement (Coupe))Coat Hook Replacement (Sedan) (Coat Hook Replacement (Sedan)) .
8. Remove the assist handle. Assist Handle Replacement (W/out Lamp) (Assist Handle Replacement (W/out Lamp))Assist Handle Replacement (With Lamp) (Assist Handle Replacement (With Lamp))
9. Remove the side rail lamp. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement (Coupe), Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement (Sedan).
10. Remove the windshield pillar garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) in Roof.
11. Remove the rear quarter upper trim panels. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Coupe) (Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Coupe))Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Sedan) (Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Sedan)) .
12. Remove the upper center pillar trim panel.
13. Pull down on the door opening weatherstrip seal on both the front and the rear doors.
14. Remove the rear push-in retainers (2) from the headliner using J 38778 .
15. Disconnect the headliner electric harness at the right side of the rear window shelf.
16. Rotate the right front seatback to a horizontal position.
17. Remove the headliner from the vehicle through the right front door.



Installation Procedure






Important: Do not bend the headlining too much when loading the headlining.


1. Install the headliner to the vehicle through the right front door.
2. Align the sunshade holes (1) in the headlining with the respective hole in the body structure.
3. Connect the headliner electric harness at the right side of the rear window shelf.
4. Install the push-in retainers (2) to the headliner.
5. Install the door opening weatherstrip seal in order to hold the headliner in place on both the front and the rear doors.
6. Install the upper center pillar trim panels.
7. Install the rear quarter upper trim panel. Refer to Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Coupe) (Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Coupe))Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Sedan) (Rear Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement (Sedan)) .
8. Install the windshield pillar garnish molding . Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) in Roof.
9. Install the side rail lamps. Refer to Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement (Coupe), Roof Side Rail Lamp Replacement (Sedan).
10. Install the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement (Coupe) (Coat Hook Replacement (Coupe)), Coat Hook Replacement (Sedan) (Coat Hook Replacement (Sedan)) in Roof.
11. Install the assist handle. Assist Handle Replacement (W/out Lamp) (Assist Handle Replacement (W/out Lamp))Assist Handle Replacement (With Lamp) (Assist Handle Replacement (With Lamp)) .
12. Install the overhead console. Refer to Roof Console Replacement (With Storage) (Roof Console Replacement (With Storage)) .
13. Connect the electric connector to the rear view mirror.
14. Install the sunshade anchors. Refer to Sunshade Anchor Replacement (Sunshade Anchor Replacement) .
15. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement (Sunshade Replacement) .
