Fastener Tightening Specifications
• 1 Always replace
• 2 Install with locking compound
Cylinder Head Bolt Tightening Sequence and Specification
- Tighten the cylinder head bolts in the sequence shown, starting from the inside and working toward the outside, as follows:
- Pre-tighten all the bolts to 30 Nm.
- Tighten all the bolts to 50 Nm.
- Tighten all bolts 90° (1/4) additional turn, using a ratchet.
- Tighten all bolts again 90° (1/4) additional turn, using a ratchet.
Camshaft Bearing Cap Nut Tightening Sequence and Specification
A - Intake Camshaft
- Tighten the bearing caps 5 and 9 alternately and diagonally to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
- Install bearing caps 1 and 13 and tighten to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
- Install bearing cap 7 and tighten to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
- Install bearing caps 3 and 11 and also tighten to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
B - Exhaust Camshaft
- Tighten the bearing caps 6 and 10 alternately and diagonally to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
- Install bearing caps 2 and 14 and tighten to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
- Install bearing cap 8 and tighten to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
- Install bearing caps 4 and 12 and also tighten to 5 Nm + 45° (1/8) additional turn.
Intake Manifold
First attach the intake manifold to the cylinder head;
Tightening Specification: 13 Nm
Tighten both front intake manifold support bolts.
Tightening Specification: 20 Nm
Then tighten rear intake manifold support:
Tightening Specification: 20 Nm
Oil dipstick guide tube to intake manifold bolt.
Tightening Specification: 5 Nm
Exhaust Manifold and Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters Assembly Overview
1 Electrical Connector
• Black, 6 pin.
2 Heated Oxygen Sensor (G39), 55 Nm
• Bank 1, sensor 1.
• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 1, 2 and 3.
• Only use hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) to grease the threads; do not let the hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits in the oxygen sensor body,
• Use the ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.
3 Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) 2 (G108), 55 Nm
• Bank 2, sensor 1.
• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 4, 5 and 6.
• Only use hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) to grease the threads; do not let the hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits in the oxygen sensor body,
• Use the ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.
4 Electrical Connector
• Brown, 6 pin.
5 Nut, 40 Nm
• Always replace.
6 Oxygen Sensor (O2S) 2 behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G131), 55 Nm
• Bank 2, sensor 2.
• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 4, 5 and 6.
• Only use hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) to grease the threads; do not let the hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits in the oxygen sensor body.
• Use the ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.
7 Electrical Connector
• Brown, 4 pin
8 Oxygen Sensor (O2S) behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130), 55 Nm
• Bank 2, sensor 1.
• Installed in the exhaust gas stream of cylinders 1, 2 and 3.
• Only use hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) to grease the threads; do not let the hot bolt paste (G 052 112 A3) get onto the slits in the oxygen sensor body.
• Use the ring spanner 7-piece set (3337) for removal and installation.
9 Electrical Connector
• Black, 4 pin.
10 Bolt, 20 Nm
11 Intake Manifold Support, Front
12 Exhaust Manifold Heat Shield
13 Intake Manifold Support, Rear
14 Bolt, 20 Nm
15 Bolt, 20 Nm
16 Gasket
• Always replace.
17 Exhaust Manifold
18 Nut, 25 Nm
• Always replace
19 to Center Muffler

20 Bolt, 25 Nm
21 Suspended Mount
• For the front exhaust pipe.
22 Catalytic Converter
• Installed in exhaust stream of cylinder 1, 2 and 3 on right side as well as 4, 5 and 6 on left side.
23 Front Exhaust Pipe
• With flex joint.
• Do not bend the decoupling element more than 20 degrees when removing or it may be damaged.
