Engine, Installing
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal, noting the following:
CAUTION!
When doing any repair work, especially in the engine compartment, pay attention to the following due to clearance issues:
• Route lines of all types (for example: fuel, hydraulic, Evaporative Emission (EVAP) , coolant, refrigerant, brake or vacuum) and electrical wires so that the original path is followed.
• To prevent damage to the lines, make sure there is sufficient clearance to all moving or hot components.
- In vehicles with a Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) transmission, a pilot needle bearing must be installed in the crankshaft. Install the needle bearing, if necessary. Refer to => [ Crankshaft Needle Bearings ] Service and Repair.
- Lubricate the used needle bearing lightly using high temperature grease (G 052 133 A2).
- Make sure the alignment pins for the engine and transmission are installed in the cylinder block. Install if necessary.
- When installing the engine/transmission assembly, check for clearance to the subframe as well as to the radiator.
- Align the engine mount as follows:
• There must be a distance - a - of at least 10 mm present between the engine mount bracket - 2 - and the right longitudinal member.
• The casting edge on the engine mount bracket - 2 - must be parallel to the engine mount arm - 1 -.
- Install the pendulum support.
• Tightening specifications for the mounts. Refer to => [ Fastener Tightening Specifications ] Engine Assembly - Fastener Tightening Specifications.
- Install the drive axles.
- Install the front driveshaft tube.
- Install the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converters. Refer to => [ Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters ] Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converters.
• Ensure the exhaust system is installed free of tension. Refer to => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.
- Install the shift mechanism to the transmission.
- Electrical connections and routing.
- Install the A/C compressor.
- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to => [ Ribbed Belt ] Ribbed Belt.
- Reset the lock carrier service position.
- Install the noise insulation.
- Fill the cooling system. Refer to => [ Draining and Filling ] Draining and Filling.
- Perform a vehicle system test. Refer to " Guided Fault Finding".
- End the vehicle system test, this will automatically erase Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) entries which occurred during the assembly.
- Generate a readiness code in connection with the road test.
Observe the safety precautions that apply to road tests.
- Perform a test drive.
- Then perform the vehicle system test again and repair any occurring malfunctions if necessary.
