Transmission, Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Before installing an exchanged transmission, clean ATF pipes and ATF cooler => [ ATF Pipes and ATF Cooler, Cleaning ] ATF Pipes and ATF Cooler, Cleaning and replace ATF auxiliary filter => [ ATF Additional Filter ] 01J Continuously Variable Transmission.

When performing repairs, replace self-locking nuts and bolts.

Always replace bolts that are secured with tightening torque as well as seals, gaskets and O-rings.

Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.

When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.

- Clean the transmission driveshaft splines and the damper unit splines on the flywheel; remove any corrosion and apply a very thin coating of clutch plate connector grease (G 000 100) to the splines. Excess grease must be removed.

- Check if the alignment sleeves for centering engine/transmission are in the cylinder block, and install if necessary.

- Before installing transmission, tie electrical wiring to one side so that it cannot be trapped between engine and transmission.

- Raise engine far enough until selector lever cable can be installed.

Take care not to bend or kink selector lever cable.

Lightly grease ball socket of selector lever cable with polycarbamide grease (G 052 142 A2) before installing.

- Install selector lever bracket according to marking on console.

- Carefully raise transmission and bring into installation position using transmission support (T40173).





- Attach transmission to engine with new bolts.

The torque specifications apply only to lightly greased, oiled, phosphated, or black-finished nuts and bolts.

Additional lubricant such as engine or transmission oil may be used, but do not use graphite lubricant.

Do not use degreased parts.

Tolerance for torque specification ± 15%.

- Before inserting the lower set of bolts connecting transmission with engine, lift transmission up slightly at the rear.

- Install transmission support => [ Transmission Mounting and Transmission Support ] Transmission Mounting and Transmission Support.

- Install tunnel crossmember => [ Tunnel Crossmember ] Tunnel Crossmember.

- Install ATF pipes with new O-rings => [ ATF Pipes, ATF Cooler and ATF Additional Filter Assembly Overview ] Description and Operation.

- Install front exhaust pipes and adjust the exhaust system so that it is free of tension.

- Install front crossbrace

- Install subframe crossbrace.

- Attach drive axles to flange shafts.

- Loosen torque support bolts - arrows -.





- Allow stop for torque support to seat on torque support rubber buffer through its own weight and retighten screws.

- Electrical connections and routing.

- Heed appropriate instructions for work to be performed following battery connection.

- Check adjustment of selector lever cable => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting.

- Check oil level in front final drive => [ Front Final Drive, Checking Gear Oil Level ] Final Drive, Differential (01J Continuously Variable Transmission).

- Check ATF level and top up => [ Automatic Transmission Fluid, Checking Level and Correcting ] Service and Repair.
