1UR-FE ENGINE MECHANICAL: ENGINE ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL
1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM Service and Repair
2. DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE Removal
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
NOTICE:
* w/ Navigation System:
After the engine switch is turned off, the display and navigation module display (navigation system) records various types of memory and settings. As a result, after turning the engine switch off, be sure to wait for the time specified in the following table before disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
Waiting Time before Disconnecting Cable from Negative (-) Battery Terminal:
* When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization.
4. REMOVE HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the washer hose.
(b) Remove the 8 bolts and hood.
NOTICE:
If the hood support is detached from the ball joint, it becomes non-reusable. Therefore, do not detach the hood support from the ball joint unless replacing it.
5. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly Removal.
6. REMOVE LOWER FRONT BUMPER COVER
(a) Remove the clip, 5 bolts and lower front bumper cover.
7. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts.
(b) Unhook the No. 1 engine under cover from the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.
8. REMOVE TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and transmission under cover.
9. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 4 bolts and rear engine under cover.
10. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL LH
(a) Remove the 7 clips and front fender apron seal LH.
11. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON SEAL RH
(a) Remove the 4 clips and front fender apron seal RH.
12. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL LH
(a) Remove the 5 clips and front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal LH.
13. REMOVE FRONT NO. 1 FENDER APRON TO FRAME SEAL RH
(a) Remove the 5 clips and front No. 1 fender apron to frame seal RH.
14. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL
(a) Remove the 13 clips and upper radiator support seal.
15. REMOVE V-BANK COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Raise the front of the V-bank cover to detach the 2 pins. Then detach the 2 V-bank cover hooks from the No. 1 V-bank cover bracket and remove the V-bank cover.

16. REMOVE ENGINE ROOM SIDE COVER LH
(a) Remove the 4 clips and engine room side cover LH.

(a) Remove the 4 clips and engine room side cover.

20. REMOVE BATTERY
(a) Remove the nut and disconnect the No. 2 engine wire.
(b) Remove the 2 nuts and battery hold down clamp.
(c) Remove the battery.

(a) Remove the front bumper cover Removal.
23. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP AND HOSE
(a) Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector, No. 1 air hose and No. 2 ventilation hose and detach the wire harness clamp.
(b) Loosen the hose clamp.
(c) Detach the 4 clamps and remove the air cleaner cap and hose.
24. REMOVE AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY
25. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner case.
26. REMOVE RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR LH Removal
27. REMOVE RADIATOR SIDE DEFLECTOR RH Removal
28. REMOVE RADIATOR RESERVOIR ASSEMBLY Removal
29. REMOVE NO. 1 RADIATOR HOSE Removal
30. REMOVE FAN SHROUD Removal
31. REMOVE NO. 2 RADIATOR HOSE Removal
32. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY Removal
33. REMOVE RADIATOR ASSEMBLY Removal
34. REMOVE WATER PIPE AND HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Single Air Conditioning System)
(a) Detach the clamp.
(b) Disconnect the 4 water hoses and remove the 2 nuts and the water pipe and hose.
35. REMOVE WATER PIPE AND HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY (for Dual Air Conditioning System)
(a) Detach the clamp.
(b) Disconnect the 6 water hoses and remove the 2 nuts and the water pipe and hose.
36. DISCONNECT NO. 12 WATER BY-PASS HOSE Removal
37. DISCONNECT NO. 13 WATER BY-PASS HOSE Removal
38. REMOVE EGR VALVE ASSEMBLY Removal
39. REMOVE EGR VALVE BRACKET Removal
40. DISCONNECT NO. 4 WATER BY-PASS PIPE Removal
41. REMOVE VENTILATION HOSE ASSEMBLY Removal
42. REMOVE AIR TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal
43. REMOVE INTAKE MANIFOLD Removal
44. DISCONNECT NO. 1 OIL RESERVOIR TO PUMP HOSE Removal
45. DISCONNECT PRESSURE FEED TUBE Removal
46. REMOVE VANE PUMP ASSEMBLY Removal
47. REMOVE GENERATOR ASSEMBLY Removal
48. REMOVE DISCHARGE HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 3 bolts and discharge hose.
(b) Remove the 2 O-rings from the discharge hose.
NOTICE:
Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.
49. REMOVE SUCTION HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 bolts, nut and suction hose.
(b) Remove the 2 O-rings from the suction hose.
NOTICE:
Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent moisture and foreign matter from entering them.

(a) Remove the 2 fuel pipe clamps from the fuel tube connector.

(b) Disconnect the fuel hose and No. 2 fuel tube Service Precautions.
66. DISCONNECT ENGINE WIRE
(a) for Engine Room LH Side:
(1) Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.
(2) Remove the nut from the engine room relay block.

(3) Using a small screwdriver, detach the 2 claws and disconnect the engine wire from the engine room relay block.
(4) Disconnect the connector.
(5) Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the No. 2 engine wire and ground wire.

(6) Detach the wire harness clamp and disconnect the No. 2 engine wire.
(b) for Engine Room RH Side:
(1) Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.

(2) Disconnect the connector, detach the 3 clamps and disconnect the engine wire.
(c) Remove the lower instrument panel Removal.
(d) Disconnect the ECM connector.
(1) Detach the clamp and disconnect the 6 connectors.
(2) Detach the grommet from the wire harness support.
(3) Detach the 4 claws to remove the wire harness support from the vehicle, and then pull out the ECM connector to remove it from the vehicle.
67. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the bolt and disconnect the oil cooler tube.
68. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the front propeller shaft assembly Removal.
69. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the propeller shaft assembly Removal.
70. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SETTING BOLT Removal
71. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the automatic transmission assembly Removal.
72. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR
HINT
Perform this procedure only when replacement of the engine mounting insulator is necessary.
(a) Remove the bolt and rear engine mounting heat insulator.
(b) Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the transfer.
73. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND RING GEAR SUB-ASSEMBLY
(a) Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

(b) Remove the 10 bolts, the rear drive plate spacer, the drive plate and ring gear, and the crankshaft angle sensor rotor.
74. INSTALL ENGINE HANGER
(a) Install 2 engine hangers with 2 bolts as shown in the illustration.
Torque : 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf)
HINT
75. REMOVE ENGINE ASSEMBLY
(a) Attach an engine sling device and hang the engine with a chain block.

NOTICE:
When hanging the engine, make sure to hang the engine with the angle of the sling device at 50° or less. If not, the engine or engine hangers may be damaged.
(b) Remove the 2 nuts and 4 bolts from the front engine mounting insulator LH and RH.

(c) Lift the engine out of the vehicle carefully.
NOTICE:
Make sure the engine is clear of all wiring, hoses and cables.
(d) Remove the front engine mounting insulator LH and RH.
(e) Place the engine onto a workbench.
76. REMOVE NO. 1 WATER BY-PASS PIPE
(a) Disconnect the 2 water hoses and remove the No. 1 water by-pass pipe.
77. INSTALL ENGINE STAND
(a) Install the engine to an engine stand with bolts.
