Checking DTC Memory (Function 02)
NOTE: DTC memory must first be read before it can be erased.
Special tools, workshop equipment, testers, measuring instruments and auxiliary items required
- VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool using VAG 1551/3 adaptor cable
Work Sequence
- Start engine and let idle
- Connect VAG 1551/1552 Scan Tool. [1][2]Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Press 0 and 1 buttons to select Address Word 0l "Engine electronics"
if engine will not start:
- Switch ON ignition
- Switch ON Scan Tool printer using print button.
- Lamp in Print button must light up.
Display will appear as shown
Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX
- Operate Scan Tool taking displayed information into account
- Press 0 and 2 buttons to select Function 02: "Check DTC memory"
- Press Q button to enter input
The number of stored DTCs or "No DTC recognized!" will appear on the display.
X DTCs recognized!
NOTE: If one or more DTCs are stored, the stored DTCs will be displayed and printed out one after the other.
After stored DTCs are printed, display will appear as shown:

Select function XX
NOTE: The Scan Tool is partially required for further troubleshooting.
- Leave engine running and Scan Tool connected
- Locate and eliminate DTCs printed out as per DTC table. Testing and Inspection
- Afterwards erase DTC memory. Erasing DTC Memory (Function 05)
- Create readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
- Display the readiness code. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
If DTC memory was erased
- Create Readiness code again. Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
If no DTC is stored:
- Press -> button.
Display will appear as shown

- Press Q button to enter input
