Selector Mechanism and Cable, with the Selector Housing

Short Description

The selector mechanism and the selector lever cable cannot be separated from each other. Both are removed with the selector housing.






Remove the center console inside the passenger compartment.

It is necessary to remove the heat shield under the vehicle.

If it is necessary to remove and install the selector mechanism with cable, without the selector housing. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism and Cable, without the Selector Housing ] Selector Mechanism and Cable, without the Selector Housing.

• After installation, the selector lever cable movement must be checked and adjusted.

Removing

- Move the selector lever into the "P" position.






- Remove the selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

- Remove the center console.

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - from the selector mechanism.






- Remove the air filter housing.

- Remove the lock washers - A and B -. The lock washers must later be replaced when adjusting the selector lever cable.






Loosen the adjustment bolt - arrow -.

Use pliers to remove the lock washer - B -. Do not use a sharp edged tool. Otherwise the selector lever cable could get damaged.

- Remove the front and rear tunnel braces.

with a Gas Engine

- Remove the front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter.

- Disconnect the center and rear mufflers from the retaining straps and secure them to the body with wire.

with a Diesel Engine

- Remove the front exhaust pipe with particulate filter.

- Remove the muffler.

- Remove the center tunnel heat shield under the selector mechanism.

• A second technician is required under the vehicle to remove the selector mechanism.

- Remove the nuts - arrows - from in the vehicles interior.






- Remove the bracket - A -, if equipped.

- Remove the selector mechanism - B - with the selector lever cable and selector housing downward.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal.

• Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

• Do not lubricate the selector lever cable.

• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Overview ] Selector Mechanism Overview.

- Install the center tunnel heat shield under the selector mechanism.

- Install the exhaust system making sure it is not under stress.

- Install the front and rear tunnel braces.

- Install the center console.

- Install the selector lever handle. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Handle ] Selector Lever Handle.

- Adjust the selector lever cable. Refer to => [ Selector Lever Cable, Adjusting ] Adjustments.

- Check the selector mechanism. Refer to => [ Selector Mechanism, Checking ] Selector Mechanism, Checking.

- Install the air filter housing.
