Installation





AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL: REAR AXLE HUB: INSTALLATION

HINT
* Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.
* The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

1. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB AND BEARING ASSEMBLY

(a) Hold the rear axle assembly between aluminium plates in a vise.

NOTICE:
Do not overtighten the vise.

(b) Install the rear axle hub and bearing assembly to the rear axle carrier sub-assembly with the 4 bolts.





Torque : 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft-lbf)

2. INSTALL REAR NO. 2 WHEEL BEARING DUST DEFLECTOR

(a) Using SST and a press, install a new rear No. 2 wheel bearing dust deflector to the rear axle assembly.

HINT
Align the hole for the rear speed sensor in the rear No. 2 wheel bearing dust deflector with the rear axle carrier sub-assembly.

3. INSTALL REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Connect the rear drive shaft assembly to the rear axle assembly.

NOTICE:
* Make sure to keep the rear drive shaft assembly and its installation surfaces free of foreign matter.
* Be careful not to damage the boot.

4. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY

(a) Temporarily tighten the rear No. 2 suspension arm assembly to the rear axle assembly with the bolt and nut.





NOTICE:
Turn the bolt while holding the nut.

5. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY

(a) Temporarily tighten the rear No. 1 upper control arm assembly to the rear axle assembly with the bolt, nut and washer.





6. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

7. INSTALL TOE CONTROL LINK SUB-ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the toe control link sub-assembly with a new nut.





Torque : 70 Nm (714 kgf-cm, 52 ft-lbf)

8. TEMPORARILY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

9. INSTALL NO. 3 PARKING BRAKE CABLE ASSEMBLY

(a) Install the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly to the rear axle assembly with the 2 nuts.





Torque : 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 in-lbf)

10. APPLY HIGH TEMPERATURE GREASE Reassembly

11. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY Reassembly

12. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Reassembly

13. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE ASSEMBLY Reassembly

14. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING SCREW SET Reassembly

15. INSTALL NO. 1 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Reassembly

16. INSTALL NO. 2 PARKING BRAKE SHOE RETURN TENSION SPRING Reassembly

17. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE INSTALLATION Reassembly

18. INSTALL REAR SPEED SENSOR

(a) Install the rear speed sensor with the bolt (A) and bolt (B).





Bolt (A) - Torque : 6.0 Nm (61 kgf-cm, 53 in-lbf)

Bolt (B) - Torque : 8.5 Nm (87 kgf-cm, 75 in-lbf)

NOTICE:
* Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the sensor tip.
* Do not twist the rear speed sensor when installing it.

19. INSTALL REAR DISC Installation

20. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Reassembly

21. TEMPORARILY INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Clean the threaded parts on the rear drive shaft assembly and a new rear axle shaft nut using a non-residue solvent.

NOTICE:
* Be sure to perform this work even when using a new rear drive shaft assembly.
* Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign matter.

(b) Install the new rear axle shaft nut.





Torque : 290 Nm (2957 kgf-cm, 214 ft-lbf)

HINT
Stake the rear axle shaft nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.

22. SEPARATE REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Disassembly

23. REMOVE REAR DISC Removal

24. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS Rear Axle Hub

25. INSPECT REAR AXLE HUB RUNOUT Rear Axle Hub

26. INSTALL REAR DISC Installation

27. INSTALL PARKING BRAKE SHOE ADJUSTING HOLE PLUG

28. INSTALL REAR NO. 1 DISC BRAKE CALIPER PLATE Installation

29. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY Reassembly

30. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT NUT

(a) Using a chisel and a hammer, stake the axle shaft nut.





31. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE

Adjustments.

32. STABILIZE SUSPENSION Installation

33. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY

(a) Fully tighten the nut.





Torque : 161 Nm (1642 kgf-cm, 119 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
The final torque must be applied under standard vehicle height conditions.

34. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 UPPER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

35. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY Installation

36. FULLY TIGHTEN REAR NO. 2 SUSPENSION ARM ASSEMBLY

(a) Fully tighten the bolt.





Torque : 161 Nm (1642 kgf-cm, 119 ft-lbf)

NOTICE:
* Turn the bolt while holding the nut.
* The final torque must be applied under standard vehicle height conditions.

37. INSTALL REAR SUSPENSION MEMBER BRACE Installation

38. INSTALL NO. 2 DIFFERENTIAL SUPPORT PROTECTOR Installation

39. INSTALL REAR WHEEL

Torque : 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf)

40. INSPECT AND ADJUST REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT

Rear Wheel Alignment.

41. CHECK FOR SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
