Oil Pump Drive Chain






Oil Pump Drive Chain

This procedure is only possible when the transmission has been removed!

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Camshaft Bar (T10068 A)

Counterhold Tool (T10172)

Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)

Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)

Adjustment Tool (T10363)

Silicone Adhesive Sealant (D 176 501 A1)

Conditions:

The transmission is removed

The flywheel is removed

The oil pan is removed

The sealing flange is removed

The cylinder head cover is removed

Removing

- Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.

- Loosen the chain sprocket bolt - arrow - approximately 1 turn. Counter hold the vibration damper using the counterhold tool (T10172) when doing so.






- Lock the chain tensioner with tensioning rail using a 3 mm hex wrench - A -.






- Remove the chain tensioner with tensioning rail bolt - arrows - and tensioning rail.

- Remove the chain sprocket with the oil pump timing chain.

Installing






- Position the crankshaft at Top Dead Center (TDC).

The ground down tooth, must be aligned with the main bearing cap joint - arrow A -.

- Rotate the oil pump shaft - 1 - until the flat side - arrow - is horizontal to the mark - 2 - on the oil pump.






- Install the timing chain onto the guide rail and mount it onto the crankshaft.

- Insert the large sprocket in the timing chain so that the mark - arrow B - is aligned with the mark on the oil pump.






- Place the chain sprocket on the oil pump shaft and install the bolt hand tight.

If the chain sprocket cannot be installed, rotate the oil pump shaft slightly.

Note the rotation direction of the used timing chain. Refer to => [ Identifying the timing chain ] Timing Chains Overview.

- Install the chain tensioner with tensioning rail and bolts - arrows -. Tightening specification, see - item 15 - in the => [ Timing Chains Overview ] Timing Chains Overview.






- Remove the 3 mm hex wrench - A -.

- Check the adjustment marks.






The ground down tooth, must be aligned with the main bearing cap joint - arrow A -.

The mark - arrow - must be aligned with the mark on the oil pump.

- Tighten the new chain sprocket bolt - arrow - to specification, see - item 7 - in the => [ Oil Pan/Oil Pump Overview ] Oil Pan/Oil Pump Overview. Counter hold the vibration damper using the counterhold tool (T10172) when doing so.






Replace the chain sprocket bolt.

- Install the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Installing ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
