Oil Pump Drive Chain
Oil Pump Drive Chain
• This procedure is only possible when the transmission has been removed!
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Camshaft Bar (T10068 A)
• Counterhold Tool (T10172)
• Torque Wrench (5-50 Nm) (V.A.G 1331)
• Torque Wrench (40-200 Nm) (V.A.G 1332)
• Adjustment Tool (T10363)
• Silicone Adhesive Sealant (D 176 501 A1)
Conditions:
• The transmission is removed
• The flywheel is removed
• The oil pan is removed
• The sealing flange is removed
• The cylinder head cover is removed
Removing
- Remove the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Camshaft Timing Chain ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
- Loosen the chain sprocket bolt - arrow - approximately 1 turn. Counter hold the vibration damper using the counterhold tool (T10172) when doing so.
- Lock the chain tensioner with tensioning rail using a 3 mm hex wrench - A -.
- Remove the chain tensioner with tensioning rail bolt - arrows - and tensioning rail.
- Remove the chain sprocket with the oil pump timing chain.
Installing
- Position the crankshaft at Top Dead Center (TDC).
• The ground down tooth, must be aligned with the main bearing cap joint - arrow A -.
- Rotate the oil pump shaft - 1 - until the flat side - arrow - is horizontal to the mark - 2 - on the oil pump.
- Install the timing chain onto the guide rail and mount it onto the crankshaft.
- Insert the large sprocket in the timing chain so that the mark - arrow B - is aligned with the mark on the oil pump.
- Place the chain sprocket on the oil pump shaft and install the bolt hand tight.
• If the chain sprocket cannot be installed, rotate the oil pump shaft slightly.
• Note the rotation direction of the used timing chain. Refer to => [ Identifying the timing chain ] Timing Chains Overview.
- Install the chain tensioner with tensioning rail and bolts - arrows -. Tightening specification, see - item 15 - in the => [ Timing Chains Overview ] Timing Chains Overview.
- Remove the 3 mm hex wrench - A -.
- Check the adjustment marks.
• The ground down tooth, must be aligned with the main bearing cap joint - arrow A -.
• The mark - arrow - must be aligned with the mark on the oil pump.
- Tighten the new chain sprocket bolt - arrow - to specification, see - item 7 - in the => [ Oil Pan/Oil Pump Overview ] Oil Pan/Oil Pump Overview. Counter hold the vibration damper using the counterhold tool (T10172) when doing so.
• Replace the chain sprocket bolt.
- Install the camshaft timing chain. Refer to => [ Installing ] Camshaft Timing Chain.
